"In 1938 Alastair Cooke was sent to New York by the BBC, he arrives to bring Swing Music back to England, where it had not been heard in such a mass media way. Emanating from the roof of New York's St. Regis hotel on East 54th street the who's who of Swing jam together in this historic transmission that was only broadcast in England at the time.

It is humorous to hear Alastair Cooke call the jam session as if it were a sporting event!

The band is led by pianist Teddy Wilson who was a master at organizing exciting combinations of jazz musicians.
