He's getting too good. I used to be able to take a hat over to him for some work and get it back in a week or 2, now I have to wait months. But I'm happy he's getting the orders, it means he'll stay in business and I'll have a local hatter to go to, even if I have to wait. He is waiting on some fepsa felt bodies from Portugal to come in. I'm anxious to see it as it is supposed to be excellent.

Greg, another great one! Inspired by another one of your hats, I'm working on a "Maltese Falcon" homage with Mike. It will be a while, but I'm very glad to be in the queue!

Hey Tedquinton...you say that granite is light grey with a brownish hue? Would it, in your opinion, go well with a darker grey ribbon treatment? I'm torn between granite and sahara for my felt color. I'm concerned sahara is too close to silverbelly, which I love, but already own in multiples! I'm looking for a color that goes well with grey hair and a mostly earthtone wardrobe.

Granite is actually quite hard describe, it's definitely grey, but perhaps more towards mid grey in hue. However it certainly has some earth tones. I think it would suit a dark ribbon. I think there may be some examples on Mike's Facebook page.

So I asked Mike (what seems like a long time ago) to refurbish a couple of my hats. At first he didn't want to do it, stating that he was very busy, and offered to direct me to a couple of his friend hatters, but I persisted, and he agreed to do my hats, stating that it may take some time as he was very busy.

Fast forward a considerable length of time I receive a couple of hats that went in as worn but complete, and mainly unblemished felts. The first was a vintage Stetson 3X:

Measurements: brim 2 1/2", crown 5 1/4.

The second hat went in as a Akubra Imperial Felt that I had worn for years, was intact and complete but had some old sweat stains. It was a work hat for me, but the felt was still in excellent shape, so it went from:

Excellent workmanship on both hats. And even better, well worth every penny I spent.

Thank you Mike.

Here's a Stetson Nutria western hat that I found at Goodwill that I had Mike convert to a fedora. It turned out rather well I'd say. It far exceeded my expectations. The ribbon and edge binding color was a perfect match up.

Originally it was way too small for me and the sweatband was shot. But the felt was immaculate. Mike cleaned it up, stretched it to my size, cut the brim down from 3 1/4 to 2 3/4ths and put in a new sweatband and did the edge binding and ribbon work.
