It looks fine to me and I personally wouldn't give it a second thought.

That said, it's your purchase. If you think it's going to continue bothering you, now's the time to forward pics to Holly and clarify the nature of the mark. Probably better than letting us (the peanut gallery) speculate.

Something like this, while probably minute in the visual grand scheme of the jacket, would initially concern me too. I'd definitely send a "what is this/will it affect the durability of the jacket" email. If the answer is that the jacket is fine (which probably will be the answer), then I'd let it go!

I just put a small gouge on the rear kidney pleat of my Johnson jacket the other day. For three minutes I felt like my world was over, but then just decided to move on, and haven't looked back. The leather is strong, even when a little bit of it is chipped up.

Hey guys,

thank you everyone for the constructive replies... I am not so much concerned about the visual effect of the scar - it actually is placed at the inner sleeve and not eye-catching - so this is fine for me. I was more wondering about the durability aspect, to be honest. As remarked, the coating appears to be flaking off just a bit. It is hard for me to say in what direction this will develop...

It's my first leather jacket - why I've waited so long (four weeks, to be precise) with putting this on the table I can't tell - irrationality of the joy over one's first (great) leatherjacket? I can't tell.

I will definitely catch up with the aero team, just to be sure - I'll let you know what they say. I really hope that the majority of you guys is right (not that I would have any doubts about this) and that this is just natural and nothing serious.

Will post pics of the jacket with me wearing it soon after Christmas - just arrived at gf's family who are living in a more or less analogous world ;-)

Happy holidays everyone :)

that wouldn't bother me if I loved the jacket in every other respect. If you paid top dollar for it you might have a case for asking for a small rebate, as the seller may have gotten it at a discount himself.

I think it looks cool! I have a Hancock & Moore leather chair made here in NC with a visible large bug bite scar in the seat cushion! These items are made with real leather! Love it!

Hmmm I've only one jacket with scars on it. But they're clearly needle scars from someone rushing the jacket through production.... long and straight. They only showed up after use and close examination. I've not used that company since... not because the scars bothered me overly much, but because the jacket was a one off job that I paid top dollar for. That annoyed me. As for the OP, if it wasn't visible and eye catching to me I wouldn't sweat it, but I'm not sure that the painted over scar occurred during manufacture... The jacket could've snagged on something at the shop during try on's or shipping.

Well, so long as it wasn't aero I believe you are able to name the company and talk about it freely. If it was then probably better that you say nothing as if you do the pack will descend faster than you can say happy birthday Jesus, and if they can't talk over you or show you up as 'confused' you'll simply be insulted until somebody closes the thread.

That said, your dignified stance here is not lost on me, and I appreciate that, as well as more broadly speaking, your all around gentlemanly conduct, which I have always felt aligns well with the [intended] spirit of this house.

As for the scar on that jacket, think of it like this. If you were selling it yourself on ebay do you think that would help the sale? For me, brand new, I'd want a least a oner off for one like that given a) the price of this product and b) what it is supposed to be. You said yourself it's your first great leather jacket - in which case are imperfections like this consistent with your idea of 'great'? I suppose they aren't as you've put 'great' in brackets and are here in the first place. I suggest you speak to the retailer and see what they come back with. Good luck!

heavens, what a witty retort. Nevermind that every single word of what I said was accurate, I am, as I'm sure are many others, relieved to see that your well of funny pics is not at all running dry, and that the quality is not at all falling off. Unlike that sleeve on the OP's jacket. Thank aero he didn't buy it direct from source eh or else this thread'd be a lot lot busier by now

There has been no 'the pack' (as you call some members here)descending on tetzlaff2 about this concern with his 'Aero' jacket. Everyone posting has tried to be helpful, yet you must bring up your usual Aero warning and how you also feel so unjustly Aero offended. Tactics some have found quite questionable as well as tiresome. If anyone dares object then it becomes all about schitzo so you can carry that argument on indefinitely until a thread may abruptly end..with you claiming the self identified victim again. Otherwise you could just comment on a thread about Aero jackets and leave the Aero distaste out of it.

This stuff is curious Schitzo - I don't particularly care for Aero but from what I've seen as a company they operate with a high level of integrity and professionalism and they make exceptional products. There is certainly a preference for them here and a bit of a FQHH club (another thing I don't care for) but I can't agree that people react in a special way to Aero criticism. They do react to you. You are clever with words and often highly amusing but you also have a talent for getting under people's skins. Not mine particularly, since I enjoy some vigorous banter. I guess what I'm trying to say is it might be useful to reflect more on why people react to your posts, above and beyond leather jacket questions.

i forgot to mention in my last post it cant have been the retailer trying to cover up sthg - the darkish line goes under the thread of the sleeve, so the retailer cant have tried to manipulate anythg here, i suppose...

also, i have not yet felt any sort of pack descending on me;-)

That's right, hasn't happened to you here. But if, say for example, aero turns around now and tells you you did it yourself - perhaps you packed it the wrong way in your suitcase - then in those circumstances what you'd have to say to us here would not be casting aero in a favourable light. In circumstances such as those, if you then wanted to talk about that situation some more I guarantee you the pack would descend. For anyone who doubts as much I have 4 words: suck it and see. Honestly, the cycle is as tired as HD's disdain for house rules

@Seb, I don't have any problem with aero themselves at all beyond that I didn't especially care for their recent explanation of how my original hercules came to shrink. I actually quite fancy a cropduster in black goat, and had they handled my recent query with a bit more care and sensitivity then I would never have found myself pitted against the pack on these pages. It's not where I wanted to be. What I do find objectionable however is when membership of the forum is abused. People like this place because it is supposed to be gentlemanly. Well, a gentleman can disagree without calling somebody a liar or worse - directly or indirectly - yet in the case of HD (among others) he either doesn't understand this simple premise or does and feels that it doesn't apply to him. Observe the frankly ridiculous ending to the thread pasted below, where he positions himself as a seasoned faker of jacket shrinkage and leather jacket image manipulations expert! What has happened here is as clear as day to him yet to any impartial observer such absolute bunkum is probably beyond comical. And naturally, he hasn't performed this particular farce on his lonesome, note the presence of you know who to get them over the line

And Seb, with regards to who I may have rubbed up the wrong way on here (what a lovely turn of phrase that is btw) I think it might be useful for you or anyone else interested, to take a look at who those individuals are and what 96% of them have in common

Now that I've explained that to you both, let us all take care to not clutter up this thread any further. According to the OP's latest update this is an issue that must have originated in Galashiels. Presumably he has emailed aero and therefore it will be handled once they're back at work. So we'll have to wait and see

A lot of what you describe is plain to see, and certain individuals seem to like to tie threads up in knots or derail them, using good old-fashioned 'what, me?', 'I'm just a plain-speaking fella', internet forum tag team gaming. It really is tedious to see. This is what the ignore setting is for :D

Buuuuut ... you do go on a bit, mate ;)

I've a few beefs with a few companys, as I stated earlier, but I never "call them out" publically in someone elses thread. If anyone's truly interested they can alway PM me and I'll share my opinions with them. I try to behave online as I do in public, don't say anything online that you wouldn't say to the persons face. This has stood me in good stead.

You mean, you wouldn't say it their face, but you'd say it privately? Like, in a PM? Isn't that the definition of 'two-faced'?

I don't know, what with all these threads recently about creasing, shrinking, marks on the leather, maybe Aero should have a page on their website that kind of explains how all of these things are normal, natural, and to be expected?
I think that a large part of many of these 'complaints' is due to unrealistic expectations on the part of the customer.
Is it realistic to expect that a $1000+ jacket will have flawless leather?
Is it realistic to expect that this leather will never develop creases and wrinkles?

Maybe expectation management is the problem.
If I buy a $1000 TV, I expect it to be perfect.
But maybe some customers don't understand that artisan jackets are 'art', and not mass produced items?
