I'm looking for a good pair of Goodyear Welted dress shoes in black

Any suggestions for under $300 good year welted shoes that will last me a decade?

I plan on purchasing a grey Federation Deluxe felt in moonstone grey and a pair of leather soled oxfords during the summer.

Try checking eBay for a pair of Allen Edmonds. They retail for more than 300, but a lot of online-only sellers have AEs new-in-the-box on eBay for a slight discount. If you're patient and catch a sale, you might be able to find a pair for 300 or so.

Thanks, I've never bought anything from EBay, I should really learn how too though.
I'll first try a pair of AE's in a store just to get my size right, then I'll buy one online.

Allen Edmonds clearance I filtered the search results for black and 360 degree welt, but you can filter for size and style too.

6.PM.com has some good deals on AE right now. Maybe they have the black MacNeil in your size.

It doesn't matter =P. I'm looking for a good pair of black leather oxfords with a leather sole that will last me for decades.

I have a sturdy "duty Oxford" with a rubber sole and black leather upper. It's very functional, the local police wear something similar.

However, I want something nicer for office work, etc.

Like James Bond at The Bilbao meeting.

I'll reserve my rubber soled shoes for winter time and inclement weather, then I'll change pairs once I get inside.

I've had a couple of pairs of Florsheims I enjoyed. Don't know shat the going rate is in the US, though.

I've tried their shoes. I'm not impressed wih the quality though.

+1. Sir, the suggestion above for the MacNeil shoes from Allen Edmonds is spot on. If so inclined consider the Alden longwing as an alternative to the AE suggestion. They are a good in-between to the Allen Edmonds intro to quality shoes and the next step to excellent quality shoes (double/triple/quad the price). You can "google" Alden Longwings and see many examples. I see a few on Ebay - it is a possibility. The Aldens are a few more dollars, but has some very nice features, IMO. It has been said billions of times, but since quality shoes last decades, saving a few dollars on the purchase, is not a savings in the long run. IMO, saving, building expectations and having to patiently wait for the desired shoes makes appreciating the ultimate shoes everyday easy.

As to vintage - they are available, but locating your "special shoes" them takes oodles of time. Get a pair of shoes while you hunt the special vintage shoes is my advise. The vintage shoes are truly special, but they are harder to come by and need special attention as they have some age to them.

I appreciate the advice. Should I just save up a few more dollars for the Alden shoes? I really don't care if their vintage =D.

8.5 with the ones I have.

I can't confirm with AE Park Avenues, I still have to try them on in the store.

Contact the www.vintageshoesaddict.com I am going to make a bet he can find you something far nicer than anything you are going to buy from a current shoe maker for a similar but more than likely lower over all price.

Florsheims can be found NOS (New Old Stock) and they are nice...the newer ones are not total junk but not even close to the vintage quality and workmanship.

Good luck in your quest, we all do hope so very much you can find something super nice and that will fit you.

Hello. Yes almost all real vintage shoes would be made with a higher quality material, and also more quality in how the shoes are actually made (in general).

Modern shoes for the most part, when being made they have a lot of glue, lower quality leather, more "light weight" materials that are going to wear out much faster. And also some of the fashion style of real vintage, is hard to beat.

You have to be careful about dry leather and use a lot of conditioner when getting vintage shoes.
