Although I have the wrong second chromosome to know personally, I believe they are. :D

What's the new job that you need the new rags for? :)

A Week of Vintage

I wear vintage essentially every day. I'm at work 7 days a week and wearing a coat and tie or suit and tie pushes the boundries only slightly. I have a hundred or so vintage ties. That's what started it all. Most days I'll wear a vintage tie from the 40's or 50's. From ties, it was an easy step to begin to wear hats. Well, easy conceptually, it took a while to get used to the comments. I found though that the women I work with are very impressed by both my ties and hats. I also have vintage suits. I really love these. My favorites are from the 30's and 40's but I have a few the 50's also. I have a few pairs of vintage shoes and may add some retro shoes too. My new interest is bow ties so I'm adding those to my collection.

I have some casual clothing too. I have a few pairs of high waist pants and a dozen or so sports shirts. I've thought about collecting matching swim trunks/shirt combinations. Who knows why, I already have two.

Here is a sort of diary of one typical week of wearing vintage clothing:

Monday
Vintage seer sucker suit with vintage bow tie and vintage straw hat.

Tuesday
A Contempory Suit with vintage tie and vintage straw hat.
For the evening meeting it was vintage pants and vintage shirt, vintage saddle shoes and a contempory straw hat.

Wednesday, with a weather change
Contempory blazer and white pants, retro black and white shoes, vintage bow tie and vintage fedora.

Thursday
A retro Suit with a vintage bow tie and vintage fedora.

Friday
A vintage sport coat and contemporary pants with a vintage tie and vintage fedora.

Saturday
A vintage suit with vintage tie and vintage fedora.

Sunday
A retro sport coat and contempory pants with a vintage tie and vintage fedora.

As Carebear said "I think the key for me isn't to dress like I'm actually "in" the '30's (actual vintage clothes) but rather to try to dress as well as and in the style that was common then." I happen to have a fair amount of original items and that makes it easier to emulate the classic style.

"Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water. And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce, they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I wear pieces of vintage clothing that I can find in my size (which is not an easy feat with dresses, skirts and blouses). Most of my vintage attire is limited to hats, purses and jewelry. The one piece I managed to snag for myself is a 1940s rayon dress and you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.

However, that said, I sell vintage and contemporary clothing so I have lots of vintage that I can't wear. I do, however, very much enjoy helping people achieve putting together their vintage outfits.

Behind the 8 ball,..
Currently I just don't have enough stuff to wear all the time. But I do dress somewhat like vintage. That is, compared to the majority of people I see shlepping around.
I have always steadfastly refused to wear what is currently popular. No T-shirts all the time and never anything that is 10 sizes too big and promotes sports teams or players. I figure,... "Why should I mindlessly support them if they don't support me?!" (But that is another topic alltogether.)
I'm still looking for the ultimate 30's suit and fedora for special occassions.
