Circa 1953 Mallory Classic fedora in light brown with a dark brown felt ribbon. The hat is in excellent condition with just a few loose threads on the unreeded leather sweatband. The sweatband is soft and pliable and there is NO mothing. Somewhat rare to find a date stamp on a vintage hat but this one has the date stamped on the size tag behind the sweatband. $230.00 shipped. Cool hat! Is that an overwelt, or is there a brim binding made out of felt?

If not for the stamped date, I would have thought this hat was somewhat older. I suppose the name "Classic" suggests a 50s hat in an older style.

Have you posted this one on the Mallory thread? The discussion could be interesting.

I would also have thought the hat was older than 1953. I'll have to check the hat again but I'm pretty sure it's an overwelt. I didn't think that Mallory, which I believe was acquired by Stetson in the mid 40s, was still using unreeded sweatbands as late as 1953. Even the sweatband markings look like it dates to an earlier period. Maybe, after Stetson acquired Mallory they still had an inventory of older stock sweatbands! I guess I'll have to post this on the Mallory thread.
