Summer clothes from the Golden Era

Modern antiperspirants also leave unsightly yellow stains, particularly on white clothes. It's the combination of the chemicals and perspiration that creates these permanent yellow underarm stains. I've been using Tussy cream deodorant for about a year now--you can buy it in bulk, and the chemical formula is almost the same as the original -- and I haven't had any problems with stains or clothing damage since then. It doesn't last quite as long as most commercial brands, but who cares. I like the fact that it's not advertised anywhere, by the way. Somehow that makes it seem more trustworthy.

I found an original 1940s milk glass Tussy jar with a red metal screw-on lid, which I use in my medicine cabinet. I just "decant" the modern stuff into the jar. Okay, call me OCD, but I like opening up my medicine cabinet in the mornings & seeing mostly 1930s and 1940s jars and bottles. (Hm, this might become another thread in the vintage home folder!)

Yes- and unlike "just sweat" stains, these stains never come out no matter what you use. Even using a mixture of dawn and oxi-clean with scrubbing doesn't touch them.

It was also very common for women in the Era to omit stockings and go barelegged in the summer. If you look around you'll find many pictures of ordinary women wearing short socks with heeled oxfords, saddles, or other casual-oriented summer shoes. For those who worked in offices or such environments, calf-length sheer stockings with Lastex tops were available by the mid-thirties, and were a more comfortable alternative to full-length hosiery and garters.

The calf length sheer stockings are still available today these socks are commonly called Trouser Socks http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Women-s-Border-Scroll-Trouser-Socks-6-Pack/23598492 they are a lot more thicker then stockings, super comfortable with sandals and slip on shoes http://www.shopnational.com/p/Capri-II-Ballet-Shoes/clearance

Another thing I do that helps is when I'm on a walk out doors on sunny days is I wear my sunglasses and carry a dark colored umbrella to block out the sun, helps keep me cool and from getting a sun burn. Plus its super windy here and a hat will have to be pined down really hard, this way my hair style will not go flat from wearing a hat, too.
