I think there were a few mentions amid the berets, but I felt they deserved their own thread. So lads, those of us who where the good ol' Balmoral bonnet, the Tam O'shanter, and even the Glengarry or Kilmarnock, show yer colours!

I made the tam in this picture. The goal was a comfortable, practical hat for running in my kilt. Although it might seem odd, the kilt is very practical for running: no chafing, good ventiliation. Best of all, nobody says "Look how slow that guy is!" Instead they say, "Look, he's wearing a kilt!"

The tam is 100% cotton and the sweat band is one of those terrycloth things the tennis players wear. I dyed it red with Rit dye and sewed the tartan material to it. Then I made the green toorie out of yarn and attached it with velcro, so I can remove that and throw the hat in the washing machine.

The 1st time I wore it in a race, I won! Well, I won an award for Best Costume. A bunch of people ran faster than me :)

I have some more "formal" bonnets for when I'm kilted and not racing. I'll post some of those later.
