Here's my first official Mallory. She's a dane! I had a brown on that was newer and it got ruined. Pa...don't like to talk about it. Picked this darling up for only $29 on etsy. I have dated this one to be late 40s early 50s. The brim width is 2 3/4'' and the ribbon width about 1 3/4''. The color is something I do not see much. It's a fine navy with a darker navy ribbon. Mallory is one of my faves like Dobbs, Knox, and of course Stetson.

Thanks, hats.
I was thrilled. The condition is as new.
As to color, I attempted to correct it in photoshop but still have fallen short of its actual color, which is a warm, warm brown.
Root beer, I guess might come close. :p

As to the reed being indicative of age...I dunno'. [huh] Does it usually indicate a certain time frame?
(I can't find my notes from that lecture)

I can't either, but it seems that the practice of reeded sweatbands in US production hats started and stopped at specific times throughout history, with differing materials used at various times. This is what I came up with, but there is more information to be culled through as well...

Interesting find. I did see the reference online to Loewe and their troubles with reference to 1926. I'm not seeing indication in these photos of such age. The sweatband appears later - if there are no imprints, perhaps it was a replacement? Perhaps it is a later iteration of a company or brand of the same name? Any labels or other marks behind the sweatband? A better photo of the logo in the crown?

A friend of mine just purchased a 1950s Stetson 100 fedora in its original case. Never used, open crown, and no damage. Size 7 1/4. He paid $75 and is wondering if it was a good price. What do you think?
