As I've said here many times... I LOVE that movie! I have for something like 45 years, since I first saw an American release print titled Stairway To Heaven on TV. It's great to see other folks discovering it!

In keeping with my now Cary Grant marathon, and my wife's general love of Audrey Hepburn (though honestly who doesn't love Audrey Hepburn), we watched "Charade". Neither of us had ever seen it before, and it was brilliant!

Very Hitchcock in feel, gorgeous style and I love the leads, but the story itself always seems a bit off, a bit too muddled - but maybe I'm just too slow to follow it. I always enjoy the movie, but a notch down from similar movies like "To Catch a Thief" and "North by Northwest." That said, I'm jealous that you just saw it for the first time - that is always such a fun thing with a classic.

Gangs of New York. Sorry but Daniel Day Lewis has the most awful unbelievable accent of any character in any film I have ever seen. Not American or Irish, even Dick Van Dyke's cockney was more realistic.
Good film though I needed to watch it again after reading the book.

Bill the Butcher's accent was deliberate: historians have NO IDEA what an 1860s lower Manhattan "native" (as in non-immigrant) accent actually sounded like, there are no recordings. It was decided that using any kind of standard New York accent from later, or any kind of British accent, would be a cheap shot. So the dialect coaches tried to imagine something like a proto-NY accent for the second-generation natives in the film.

It is NOT just a limitation of the actor a la Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.

And I kind of are with you, no one knew a real new Yorkers accent from around 150 years ago. I just found it rather bad, but thats just me. A bit like Maurice Chevalier over emphasising his French accent. :)

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. Watched the Producers Cut, then the deleted scenes, then stuck in the other disc to watch the theatrical ending. Still like the Producers Cut ending better. The strobing effect in the Theatrical Cut hurts my eyes.

'The Night Monster' (1942) A classic 'whodunnit' with a bit of a supernatural twist. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, well thought out, well acted, and well paced.

I've always meant to watch "Pirate Radio". Last night the wife and I took in "The Warriors". Just now, over lunch, I'm setting up to watch one of my favorites for this time of year, "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein".

Having grown up during the '60s, I'm probably biased but I thoroughly enjoyed Pirate Radio...that was the second viewing for me.

Just watched Letters from Iwo Jima again. Excellent film.
