Yesterday, I found these items at the thrift store.

St. Pope John Paul II plaque.

Bernie Kowalski and the Polka Kings: Polka Party Volume II Record. I'm guessing this record is from the late 50s, or the early 60s. If you are curious to what the record sounds like, someone uploaded the same tunes on YouTube from another release of this album (this other version being called George Poole and his Polka Dots.)

Ordered this Cingolani Piano Accordion from Liberty Bellows. It's from the 60s (probably early 60s), and was sold in Chicago. The Cingolani accordions were lower-mid range accordions. Made in Italy. Some minor cosmetic damage, and a few slightly buzzy reeds, but other than that, it works fine. If it ever broke, I would have it restored. Now I need to learn how to play it!

My grandpa built one years ago, and it was used as an end table all my life. That's what I'm using this one for. I figured the Lounge would be a place where I'd find someone else with one lol

Last Saturday, I exchanged the Cingolani accordion as there was a crack in it. The exchange was easy, and the fellows at the accordion store were friendly. The new used accordion I got is from the 1960s, and is made by Arpeggio. It works fine, and is in fine condition.

Some interesting finds from a church rummage sale yesterday. The Erle Gardners are both from 1955 while the Queen is from 1965. The MacDonalds are 1966 and 1969. It's interesting that the cover price on the Gardners was 25 cents ... and that's exactly what I paid for them!

Yesterday's flea market find:

Original owner + date of purchase/commemoration.

Unsharpened woodcase pencil. Original to the box. Ivory page-turner (my addition). Sterling silver dip pen. S. Mordan & Co. (my addition).

The key in the pen tray, I cut and filed that myself. Very proud of my efforts! Works perfectly.

Closeup, showing compartments for papers etc. This whole top panel folds into the lid and locks into place when the box is closed. It pops out like this at the press of a spring-loaded catch at the back of the lid. Very nifty.

Top and bottom writing-leaves open and shut smoothly. No damage. The inkwell in the top right corner is original to the box. It was one of the factors that pushed me towards buying the box. Finding original inkwells is damn hard.

Full writing slope. There is some black adhesive tape across the fold in the box to reinforce the hinge (not my doing). other than that, the box is in great condition and fully functional.

Thank you for posting a pic of your "new" accordion. It made my day, it really did, bringing up memories of my youth and relatives. I played in a "professional" polka band when I was in my teens back in Connecticut, and have fond memories of my exposure to the various associated ethnic quarters growing up. I remember looking at my mom's old high school yearbooks from the early forties where the "orchestra" was three accordions, a sax and a flute. Thank you again for triggering the warm and reassuring memories!

Today, I picked up some records, a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a very unusual collarless plaid shirt.

The unusual collarless plaid shirt made by Peter Barton's Closet. I have no idea when it's from. There are no care instructions, and it is made in Italy. I'm guessing it's 70s, but it might be 60s, or 80s.

I got this enormous steamer bag today for £19.99 from a charity shop. I gave it a coat of Vaseline as it was quite dry. The Apple is normal size to give you an idea just how big the bag is. I know nothing about the maker style or the proper name of the bag?

Bloody hell it looks huge!

It's missing the leather belts that would've lashed it shut when it was brand new. I think it's an excellent purchase.
