Joao,it's nice felt.I don't think that it will compare to my Stetson 7x CB.I'll have to put them side by side to see what I think.

This is not a good pic of the hat, but it's a Rich Rand from his Old West collection and is among one of my favorites I own. It has seen a lot of wear & weather time and has held up well. I never buy a distressed hat; my hats get distressed the Ol' fashioned way! I have several Rand's, O'farrell's, Stetson's & others & I'll be working on some pics to post.

It's made on a 4x6" body. The crown ends up at 5.75" in the back sloping down to 3.5" in the front. The brim is 3.5" wide plus the pencil roll. This particular hat is one from Rand's Tom Horn series. Some of the Tom Horns are made on the 4x5" body as well.

Here's some pics taken in natural light. You can see the slope of the crown better. Pencil rolls can really take a beating when hats are worn a lot but this one is holding up well. The hat was made to measure and is very comfortable to wear all day long and never need adjustment on your head.

Welcome hurricane. I too have a Rand, several O'Farrell's, Stetsons, Resistol, and many other custom made. Met Rich Rand many years ago during rodeo time in Vegas, very nice gentleman.

This particular style was popular among rich & noble cattle barons in certain parts of the western US as a dress hat from the turn of the century up into the 1920's. John Coble, owner of the Swan Land & Cattle Co, & employer, friend & defender to Tom Horn was known to wear a similar style. Tom Horn was hung for murder in 1903 so he would have been no influence to the style but I have often wondered if that is how the crease is commonly called the Tom Horn today. Hatters probably made note of Coble's wearing of the style & his friendship to Horn, perhaps.

Thanks for the nice welcome Joey. It sounds like you have some nice hats as well, & have been collecting & wearing them for a while! I'd like to see some of them. I've never been to the rodeo & trade show in Vegas; have been to the rodeo in Cheyenne & others, however. I have two more versions of Rand's Tom Horn that I want to take pictures & post next, to show the variations in the style. How about posting some of your favorites?
