with the fireplaces it is no problem to keep warm and cook a good meal.

That fire place is about the size of the one that was in my father's aunt's home in Copiague. It had a couple of big end irons in there and a set up to put some big pots over the coals. She would cook baked beans over that fire that were exquisite.

I still am a fire maniac when it comes to fireplaces and will play with the fire nonstop.

We have old coal burning fireplaces in our house (age 116) that I won't use for wood as the fireboxes are too small. Coal is nearly impossible to find around here anymore.

In the absence of the real thing, I've found that a group of big fat candles in the bottom of the fireplace can give you a sense of a fire burning. It's safe and relatively low cost. Don't expect any real heat. Just a thought for those of you who also can't use your fireplaces...

There's nothing better than being snuggled up in front of a fire with a good glass of wine and the company of someone special.

I love sitting by the fire with a book and a glass of wine or cup of tea. Especially on a cold snowy New England day, it warms the body and the soul. I'm lucky to have a fireplace in both the living room and in my bedroom, which is very rare in an apartment in the city. Usually the apartments in Boston have old fireplaces, but they are blocked off for safety reasons. In the winter I usually light a small fire before I go to sleep. It's such a nice soothing smell and sound to relax and un-wind to before drifting off to neverland.

I'm sitting here in front of the fire, watching tv with my wife, reading the FL and dreaming about my deer hunt tomorrow. Life can't get much better than this.
