I'm so excited, because I'm getting my haircut today.Since my layers are still very short from my pixie cut we're going with the shortest Lulu bob I can find.
This one:
and as soon as my layers catch up I can start growing it more toward the better known dutchdoll bob that Lulu's famous for.
Hopefully by March it will be perfect and still low-maintenance enough with a newborn in the house.

Can't wait to see the photos - I've no doubt it will look sensational!

I'm about due for the first trim on my Dutch Doll - which I'm still loving and finding low maintenance (once I'd come up with a sort of bandeau type arrangement for running and aerobics). Shortly after I had it done, a friend told me Australian Vogue had featured the 'Louise Brooks bob' as the cut of the season. Did anyone else catch the piece? I keep meaning to borrow the magazine.

This particular haircut was called the "garconne", which means "boyish girl". It was a bit shorter and more daring than the standard bob of the time.

.

I absolutely love this cut! I tried this a couple years ago, and i went this short.Unfortunately, my hair is very wavy, and i had to put a LOT of effort into straightening it everyday...which always came undone when it was humid:(

This is what it more often looked like, especially after it started to grow out a bit

I currently have a pixie cut that is very limiting as far as styling goes, but i do actually prefer short hair, and as i am petite, having long hair just kind of engulfs me.

I so love that Louise Brooks look and my hair is that dark, but no amount of wishing will make it that straight

I went to an Aveda Institute salon today for a cut (not period, I'm growing layers and a lot of damage out) and while I was sitting in the chair another stylist was a few chairs down doing a fingerwave style on a manniquin head! It looked like he had a bowl of hairgel that he was slathering on this thing, then shaping the waves. The head was literally sopping with gel. Is that how it is done?

It does take quite a bit of gel to hold the wave. I had it done before at a beauty school and I think they used too much. Even for the pincurls the student but in gel for EVERY curl. When I do it at home, I just gel my whole head with a quarter size amount. It sounds like the person you saw was using too much, but it seems to be a regular thing from students

The only time I got fingerwaves done at a salon, the stylist literally dumped gel on my hair. They held well, but they looked very crunchy and disgusting.

It sounds like the student you saw was using too much gel.

I think everyone should post their new 'liberated' hair cuts they get while being inspired by this thread! I would love to see them...so I can live vicariously :)

I *really* like the haircut of the Lucky Strike girl in your avatar, Olive.

That is Billie Burke..i love the hair too and i think i chose this because i am right now having some very harsh feelings toward myself!I previously had the short L.B. bob, as i said, but had grown it to just above my shoulders. I really could have chosen any short cut (like the avatar for instance) but instead had a moment of insanity and said "pixie Cut" me!!:rage:

Thanks Marc,I love hearing the original names.

For those of us with pixie cuts,at least we know it will grow back.It was a great cut for the extra hot summer we had this year and I could style it Betty Boop-like when I felt like looking a bit more vintage.

thebadmamajama-Can't wait to see your Harlow inspired do.

Olive-those waves are stunning!

Here's what the waves look like when done with a 3barrel iron.If your leaving the back down I recommend curling the ends with a regular iron or you can pull the back up in a low chignon.(not the best pic of me,since this is about midnight the evening of our wedding and I was feeling very ill at this point, but my hair held up fantastically))

By the way,my cut turned out pretty well.I still have many layers to grow out so it's not perfection, but I feel like myself once again.
When I get my color freshened up I'll post a pic.

You are gorgeous - and not just the hair. Wish I looked half as good at the end of a long evening/day when I felt a bit under the weather. Colour looks great - I hope you have some good photos from earlier on the wedding day as well.
