Got this one in the mail today:

It's a lightwight grey wool. The jacket and vest fit perfect, I will have to take the pant's waist in a couple of inches. They are a few scattered moth holes in the jacket which will require a visit to my local Korean reweaver. But overall I am very pleased with this purchase. Besides the holes in the jacket the suit is perfectly clean, virtually unworn. The pants are HUGE at the cuffs! A three piece beltedback for 24 bucks. And she threw in a deadstock pair of vintage socks.

Yeah, it was buy-it-now. It'd just been listed, I must've been one of the first four or five people to view the auction. The weird thing is that is the second three-piece beltedback suit I scored that day. I found another from the Teens or Twenties at a thrift shop earlier that day.

I'm the seller of the great suit in question.
I haven't been here in a long while... trying to actually get some work done when I'm online
I'm actually very pleased to have found a deserving buyer for that suit. I really hate selling items with moth damage - it makes me feel like an inferior vintage dealer!
Plus -- a large part of my interest is in preserving the items -- so I'm glad to hear that you're going to get good use out of it. That makes me very happy!

AND - I've been carrying those socks around for ages. It seemed like such a silly thing to list all itself... so I was just waiting for the "right" person to come along who might enjoy them.
Happy to hear that I made the right choice!

So -- I'm happy... you're happy... yay!

But now I know why I've been getting so many emails lately asking about menswear!

Getting ready to list a superb condition double breasted pinstriped suit. Cuffed pants, WIDE lapels. Good size. Dated 1943, so we're guessing at some black market tailoring in direct conflict with fabric rationing.

Mercy, you slim guys have all the luck. Were there no fat people in the 30's, 40's or even the 50's . Oh well you got a great suit, no doubt about that .

See, now you're just rubbing it in.

Those cheap-ish buy-it-now deals come up quite regularly. You just need to be lucky enough to be the first afficianado to look at it, and have the guts to just buy it and take the loss if it's not quite what it seems. I don't know about you, but i've found that these particular auctions are the ones with the shoddiest measuring [huh]. Hey, if this one doesn't fit you, you'll recoup at least 10 times your investment on resale.:eusa_clap

WEEGEE that's a nice one. Certainly not 20s. I'd say mid-late 30s. Maybe early 40s. I'm leaning towards 30s becaus eof the caramel buttons.

Weegee, I'd have inititally thought your smart suit to be a 40's, but I defer in this matter to our good friend the Baron, remembering that the 40's suits I'm used to seeing in Australia are a good few years behind the style and detailing of the USA, being as we were so far removed from the rest of the world in those 'archaic' pre-internet days! lol Be it late 30's or 40's, either way it's a great-looking Golden Era suit.

Trousers sit where they sit. Some of mine are on the belly button, some are just above, some are way above. Wherever they naturally want to sit, that's where they should sit. If they fit properly, they will find their place.

I must add that i am not absolutely certain about the dating issue. Union tags would sort it out pretty definitively.
