Hello! New to TFL.................I have had many jackets TOO many jackets.LOL! I have recently downsized my collection a bit...............used to have some early USN navy flight jackets.............G1s,some bombers and what............ manufacturers like Mid Western Sport Togs, Reed, Butwin, Uber Tanning, little bit of everything. Spotted this old gal hang around so I picked it up. Satin interior needed some stitching done but no holes in any of the pockets. it HAS been worn quite a bit I'd say. Have a look.............AND SORRY FOR THE POOR PHOTOS.

Seems a little strange that the leather is so worn but the knits and tags seem to be in great condition. Factory distressing?

Tag looks '80s-early '90s. Poorly tanned deerskin can have serious finish issues like that, where the finish starts to flake off unevenly. (well tanned deer can be some of the best leather around, all depends). The panels which have aged better are probably from a different piece of leather than the ones that have flaked and sueded out.

Hi Guys! Appreciate the response, this was really worn ................A LOT! The cuffs are in really nice condition as is the waistband I used my sweater shaver to remove all the pilling that was present when I got it. No issues[holes, frays, snags ]at all with the knits.The different panels used has made the jacket look more worn in certain places and yes there HAS been flaking and general use staining..If I were to have this dry cleaned I'm positive it would look and feel much different and remove all the patina on the leather so that will not be happening.No bad smells at all just a lot of wear over all,never seen another jacket like this one from MID Western Sport Togs.BTW The zipper is a TALON and works great. As far as the guess what year it was made judging from other MWST jackets I have seen I'd say your right on the money. MWST has been out biz for quite some time now. I continue to wear this one often.............great comfortable jacket.............it was 40 bucks [no pun intended] so............not too bad a deal.

lol - my first thought was how well your jacket blends in with the carpet...

2nd thought is wondering what type of tanning or finishing did that skin have...

Regarding the original finish on this jacket its hard to know as so much of it is worn......................that darker panel on the back of the left sleeve has a shiny look and feel to it..................looks like a lacquered finish of some sort.................but then as the jacket it made up of different hides and has much wear it is hard to tell what it might have looked like when new.Glad I bought it though!

Many 1980's "flying" jackets styles came like that with a pre-distressed finish that fell off entirely in a brief period. Thank you Indy Jones.

Looking online and from older message threads, it seems they dissapeared toward the end of the 1990s.

This logo/label does look to have been a later one around that era, theres a jacket with a bill of sale from 1992 with this label on eBay at the moment.

I think I would Pecard the whole thing, especially around the collar, and then let it develop patina more evenly. Some of that leather looks really dry. And, welcome to the Lounge.
