Excellent article. I would recommend anyone interested in flight jackets to get at least one of the books by Jon Maguire and John Conway. Lots of history there.

The Jon Maguire and John Conway books are excellent, more history of the airmen and their jackets here than all those pictures of labels, zips and pocket flaps etc collectors seem obsessed with these days.
But only in my opinion of course ;)

I've got all the books and then some. Not to mention every picture I come across goes into the archive. Most of the jackets out in the wild have been gobbled up at this point and the hobby is moving toward reproductions of specific contracts. Seems like the only way the sticklers can keep on with it. I can appreciate the idea but too much of it can out a guy to sleep. I'm just thankful that the majority rules and the decoration, history, and fun stuff about flight jackets prevails. Facebook has an unbelievable amount of eye candy for us that I didn't realize until I signed up after getting booted from VLJ. All I can say is thanks VLJers for sending me in the right direction as it felt like I was beating a dead horse (pun intended) over there. My job is fun again!

Thanks for the like rocketeer, if you're into this please feel free to check out my new group on Facebook "Reproduction A-2 Flight Jacket Patches"

https://www.facebook.com/groups/874376629338790/

It's a place where Reproduction Jacket and Patch artists can sport their works without the risk of stepping on anyone's toes. Plenty of other places out there to go on and on about contracts, pointy collar tips, and stitches per inch where you might find a tiny but very focused circle. My plan is to offer the other countless enthusiasts a place to find and compare the multiple options available for decorating thousands of jackets with literally thousands of options. WW2 Living History, Veteran family members, currently active units, and the list goes on. It is imperative that we keep the average Joe interested to keep the flame burning. I see no better place than FB to accomplish this goal.

No criticism or flaming allowed in this group, wood carvers and underwater basket weavers are not welcome, it's a place for those interested in flight Jacket related decoration only. Whether you're buying or selling, The decoration truly is a major factor in Flight Jacket popularity from the lowest to highest end reproduction. I have watched and helped the hobby grow over the last two decades and my new focus in life will be directed where it counts. Any and all with apositive contribution are welcome.
