Just got a travel bar. Which 3 bottles would you include?

Just got a nice old travel (small suitcase) bar. Which 3 bottles would you include? I would like liquors can can be drank neat if possible. I was thinking:

A scotch whiskey.

A bourbon whiskey.

An Irish whiskey.

If you are the only one drinking I would say go with what ever you want and like. But if you plan on sharing your drinks I would say a bottle of bourdon, rum and tequila. All can be drank neat and that way you can cover several peoples taste. Just know your audience.

Gin (I currently favour Tanquery); Whiskey (go Irish or go home; I favour Bushmills, but I also enjoy Jameson's); dark, spiced rum (I still enjoy Sailr Jerry's, though it's overpriced. Red Lobster is good, and I'm very fond of The Kraken).

Tequila is a very interesting idea. I suspect I could even add a salt shaker to the bar's contents. Rum is also an interesting idea. If the first two bottles are bourbon and tequila, would rum have a wider audience over scotch? Thanks again.

Rum woild give you more variation alongside either Bourbon or Scotch than the latter two together.

I'd go with a single malt Scotch (appeals to more people around here then Bourbon), tequilla, and dark rum. I just led a rum tasting with 9 very premium rums for 40 or so people and the winners were Dictador and El Dorado.

Thanks for all the inputs. I think it's going to be: Bourbon, Scotch, Tequila or Bourbon, Rum, Tequila. I actually prefer Scotch but far more people around here drink Bourbon.

I wouldn't discount gin if you or your circle enjoy martinis, Bombay Sapphire is my go-to. Vodka is versatile but is profaned if consumed at room temperature.

In all fairness to Bombay, the Sapphire is perhaps one of the best Gin's made regardless of the price tag. I am NOT a drinker of Gin at all, just have tasted a few brands of it over the years and think the Sapphire is smooth and has more a real taste over the rest of the pack.

Vodka? OH no...no no. One of the greatest manipulations of the human mind has been those that distill old potato's and turn around and sell it for human consumption. I have several small plastic bottles of fingernail polish remover. I do not think the Vodka would actually taste much difference then the polish remover...hahaahah!

The three I would toss into this mix...single malt scotch...something with some real BITE but smoothness to it...if you are going to drink room temp booze, make it work a good "cringe" and a bit of taking the breath away..or why bother at all, right?

Scnapps. Hey you have no ice no nothing but that travel case...what will you do when you are on the go and you lose your wallet or passport of something else happens and you are left along side the road less traveled...you may be then in need for that burn of a great Scnapps. Nothing cheap...something that set you back a bit.

The Sapphire Gin. You can actually get away with tossing an olive from a small jar, one toothpick in it, shot and a half of the Gin into your martini glass (your kitt may have one of those mini glasses for drinks in it, would work if so) and if you have nothing else to add to it, you have what I would call a real dry martini...bottoms up! As stated I am not a Gin drinker, but I am sure the Gin will do it's job with little to no help at all!

Key in the OP is the phrase "can be drank neat"... If you're wanting to be able to please most guests you visit as you travel I would select a Speysides or an Islay (but stay away from the peaty south shores) single malt scotch, a good bourbon (maybe Woodford Reserve or Buffalo Trace) & a tequila. But an option to replace the tequila could be something like a mild Canadian whiskey that could be easily served mixed/rocks for the neophyte drinker.

The Balvenie 12 Doublewood I kind of save for weekends & other occasions. The Balvenie 15 Doublewood I definitely save for rainy days & very special occasions. Anything above that price point I have to save for my dreams.

Yes some of the "good stuff" does run up there in the price. I think to date, the most I have ever spent on a bottle of Scotch was in the $100.00 range. And that day has come...and gone.
