Going to London - any leather jacket stores?

Leaving for London tomorrow. Any stores I should visit?

Depends what you are looking for .....

East side of Regent St. is always good for Filsons, Vintage Levis, Red Wings and various other hipster brands.

Further up Shaftsbury avenue is the inimitable "American Classics"

Near to Kings Cross ( down a cul de sac and up some back stairs) is Lewis Leathers and Dereks hanging Jackets Collection

I second what Carlos just said. LL is a two-minute walk from the Goodge Street tube station and not to be missed if you are in London. Also drop by American Classics store which is a short walk, I think, from the Covent Garden tube station. Fascinating city London without ever enough time to see everything of interest.

Any suggestions for other outerwear stores or even knitwear stuff like cashmere?

I just came back from my 3 day trip and I visited Real McCoy's, Red Wing, LL and Silverman's for a couple of nice Vanson and Schott jackets. Don't you dare buy that size 38 Vanson Stallion!!! It's the last one they have and I might save up for it.

Rivet & Hide is a safe bet for a very fine bunch of people and very nice denim, wallets and jackets. It's a 1 minute walk from LL.

In addition to the stores mentioned above, Son of Stag is also worth visiting while in London.

Good point, rivet & hide is a very nice store, so is the red wing store in London. Both are pretty central.

The guys at R&H immediately noticed my Mister Freedom Lot 64 Okinawa jeans, and every shop I visited I received compliments on my J106. Only had that once in my country, in a Ralph Lauren store in Amsterdam.

If only for the ambiance, try to see both Leadenhall Market, and Piccadilly Arcade.
For vintage shopping on a budget get along to London's East End, the whole area is a gold mine for vintage and bargains, start at The East End Thrift Store.Look up Spitalfields Market, this an old fruit & veg market that's been gentrified and turned into small units. Traders there sell an amazing array of goods including quality leathers.

Don't forget vintage show room and american classics. Both near covent garden.

Went to Vintage Showroom as well. They had a lovely Brooks cafe racer in my size for 255 pounds.

Silverman's is worth a look if you're considering a cheapy from their own brand; they're a bit pricey for Schott. Vanson, about the norm, though little stock. Off Brick Lane in E2, you'll find Cheshire St, a lotvof nice vintage there. Beyond Retro had a size 44 Schott cafe racer in good nick for £100 this weekend (a saving of £60-100 over typical ebay uk price).

Do do Lewis, but do American Classics first, then the prices in Lewis will look really cheap by comparison. heh. Real McCoys in Covent Garden is worth window shopping.

It's a stone's throw from my favourite bagel shop the Brick Lane Baigel Bake - their salt beef bagels are the cat's whiskers! Honourable mention goes to their cheesecake and doughnuts, but I wouldn't touch their coffee...

Not sure how far off the beaten track you want to go but there is a place in hackney called bolt that is a motorcycle shop. I believe they have some aero jackets and elmc. It's probably worth calling ahead before heading there though.

Son of a stag have nice stuff but their pricing... Brick lane is quiet on a Saturday and mobbed on a Sunday. You will queue out the door of the beigel bake on a Sunday for sure.

The rivet and hide guys are nice chaps, Lewis is literally round the corner and it is a fairly short walk from there over to vintage showroom and American classics on endell street, with the Rock and soul plaice nearby which used to be a great fish and chip shop although I have not been for years.

I have visited (and bought) in most of the shops listed above.

American Classics -- Huge range of interesting stuffs, as it's name implies, they have a good collection of LVC, LEE, Penfield and Red Wing shoes. On the racks, they have large collection of flannel shirts, vests. They also have a few Eastman jackets (and the infamous BK these days) on display. Staff are usually very friendly even if you are not buying. The location is at the edge of Covent Garden near Hoborn. There is a nice wine bar down the road which one may want to try as well and another famous fish and chips shop.

Lewis Leather is not anywhere near King's Cross, it is sandwiched between Tottenham Court Road and Charlotte Street, closest station is certainly Goodge Street. If you see a pub called Rising Sun, you will find Lewis. I don't think I need to introduce the shop there, you know what you can get.

Round the corner of Lewis is Rivet and Hide, I have only window shopped there but it looks impressive, very bright, open and airy. Nice range of international denims. If any of you fancy a nice traditional shave and a cup of brewed coffee, these is Sharps Barber shop between Rivet and Lewis.



Within walking distance, it is the Carnaby Street in Soho, near Oxford Circus. You will find Filson, Red Wing, Baracuta, Barbour Heritage (a bit lame thought), LVC and the vintage tailoring Peckham Rye. Most of them are hidden behind the main Carnaby St., you need to look carefully.



Son of a Stag is further to the East of London near Brick Lane and Liverpool Street Station, is THE place that you want to visit. It is purely difficult to leave with empty hands. They have loads of ELC and Buzz jackets on display. Piles and piles of jeans on display which makes you think that they are cheap.... but they are not. You won't be disappointed, just make sure you have a deep wallet before you step in there. P.S. Gav, I still prefer the salt beef and tongue from the Brass in Selvedges.
