To Feather or Not to Feather?

Thanks Anthony, an OPS era borsy. Too nice and too brimmy so rarely worn. Had to pass it on cause it was just taking up space. Took these pix before handing it over. Miss it everyday.

Yes sir I do. I only, however wear feathers that were plucked from a bird I hunted, so my turkey feathers only come around twice a year (spring and fall hunting season) and pheasant once a year (only fall hunting season) But if you don't have access to bird hunting, there is no shame in buying or finding a good turkey feather for a hat. Personally, I think the feather looks better in a wider brim fedora or cowboy hat than in the real cropped brimmed hats and tribbies (probablly spelt that wrong, my apologies).

A couple if days ago fellow Lounger Panadora visited my home to look at a hat. Unfortunately it was a size too big for him. I bought the hat with a feather at the bow, so I tried with a discount of $10 for taking the hat with feather. Not even that helped - the hat was too big!

Well, I sometimes like feathers in others' hats - just not in my own.

Lol. You did. The word "tribbies" and its derivatives may have other conotations.

Beautiful feather ... and then again! The farthest a Dane can live from the sea is 40 miles, so most of us live close by or on the coast. Around here, seagulls are considered (and act like) "flying rats", so I'm not really tempted

Sure, we've got pigeons too - and Eurasian magpie

The problem about big seagulls and magpies is their force. Like foxes they can rip apart most garbage bins in parks and streets. They can really mess up a city before the (human) garbage teams hit the streets in the morning ... not to mention what they do around private homes. Pigeons is a "luxury-plague" in comparison!

Almost always I remove any feathers from my hats when I buy them. But my Resistol Kitten Finish early-Sixties fedora came with a feather that blended nicely with the reddish brown of the felt, and so I've left it in place:

Like Benzadmiral above, I've removed every feather I've gotten in a hat—except for this one, which I just happened to be wearing today and it's "brother" hat, the Sanibel (this one is the Delmonico Retro). I thought they added a little "dash" to the hat. They're not the nifty little feather chips that I like (as above) and have commented on, but they're not bad. Best feathers I've gotten in a hat if that's saying anything.

Haha I'm optimistically deeming it a seagull as I see a lot of them here in Venice beach, a resident lounge birder could demote it to a brown pigeon at any given time haha.

I've never been a feather guy but yesterday I was resting after doing a little yard work and my now 4 year old granddaughter walked up and showed me a feather she found in the yard. Without a word she reached up and stuck it in my ribbon right where it belonged. Now that feather has a memory attached to it and at least as far as my work hat is concerned, I am now a feather guy.

This is the best reason I've heard so far for having a feather on a hat.
