Living in North Alabama we are able to visit Jack Daniels and George Dickel regularly. It is something most who visit us want to do. A few weeks ago we toured (5) different distilleries of varying sizes in Tennessee with a group of friends. The largest was Jack Daniels. If you ever have the opportunity it is a great visit. They are in the process of releasing a rye whiskey. I was able to purchase a couple of bottles at the distillery as they haven't done a wide release yet. It is good, but I wasn't really knocked out of my socks by it. Perhaps I just need to do more "research".
George Dickel is going to be releasing a small batch rye that will be distilled in Tennessee, right now they are using product from the Indiana facility. Dickel is a relatively small operation with only 29 employees at the Tennessee location.

I do not have the most refined palate, and my first whiskey was bourbon. After a time I finally tried Irish Whiskey and that became my go to drink. In recent months, however, I have tried rye whiskey, and found it stupendous. There is a spiciness to rye that adds a distinctive note to certain mixed drinks that bourbon fails to achieve. The drinks which I have added to my list of favorites now include Manhattans and Sazeracs, both featuring Wild Turkey Rye. I highly recommend to anyone interested that you pick up a nice rye and try some of those more classic cocktails.

One of my favorite whiskies is Thomas Handy Sazerac. I am also fond of rye forward bourbons like Wild Turkey Rare Breed. If you like that spicy/ fruity flavor of rye, Rare Breed is a must try.

Hi, I have a few Rye whiskey's in the cabinet. So far my favorite for just Rye and an ice cube is Sazarec. What Rye tastes the MOST like Jewish Rye bread with the Caraway seeds? I have Old Overholdt, Rittenhouse 100 Proof, Sazarec, and one of the Old west Ryes (not the Double).

I just bought a bottle of "Jim Beam Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey", a change from my usual Jim Beam bourbon. Never had rye before and looking forward to trying it. Any good mixers for this brand?

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is a must try for serious Rye fans. It is a non-chill filtered cask strength rye. Absolutely delicious, but I am partial in general to non chill filtered cask strength whiskies.

We tried Whistle Pig, courtesy my son. It's 100% rye whiskey. I thought it was lighter tasting than other ryes. Enjoyable, though.

Redlands, CA has its own distillery. J. Riley by name. They have a nice line of Rye whiskey. I am not a big fan of rye, but nice to go and see it being made and enjoy some of the product. Check out their website.

Agreed on the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel!

Woodford Reserve Rye is also an excellent choice, but not cask strength as nothing "Woodford Reserve" is sold cask strength.

Bought my first Rye a couple weeks ago, Jefferson's Rye. I know some people here don't have it in high esteem, but I found it pretty good. Never had rye before, always wandered between bourbons and classic Irish whisky, and I found the Jefferson pretty good. It was also a great occasion to have my first old fashioned, and that was a blast. I'm afraid this can become my go-to poison!
