Need Help On A New Leather Jacket

Hey everyone, this is my first post, but I've actually been reading the forum for a bit of time. It was very useful when I was looking for a stetson and wanted to see how it actually looked on someone wearing it. Now, I have the same problem, but with figuring out what leather jacket to buy, so if anyone has any insight, it would be most appreciated. I want kind of just a traditional black cafe racer. I have a motorcycle, so I'd like something that serves good function for riding, but I also want to be able to wear it around town and not look like I'm wearing a village people costume. To me the perfect jacket aesthetically and functionally is the grayson, because of it's thickness, grain, and ability to hold armor, but I've never really seen pictures of someone wearing one, and I don't want to buy a jacket having not actually seen what the cut is. If anyone owns one, would you consider posting a picture of it? Likewise, can anyone point me in a better direction if they know of one?

as long as you don't pair your black leather jacket with black leather (pants + visor cap + jack boots + black or mirror shades) combo
you can walk around town not being seen as one of village people member. that is easy enough
getting the length right on the body and sleeve is

I would go with Vanson if I wanted a biking jacket. Model A or Model B and you're good to go. As soon as you add armor, it'll not be casually wearable or atleast look shitty imho. Maybe get a cheap riding jacket with armor and a casual jacket on top of that if you insist on armor (which would be reasonable).

Thanks for the input guys! Jacketjunkie, thanks for the suggestion, but a new vanson model b is like $800, roughly twice the fox creek, and at 24 years old, I kinda can't justify spending that much money on a jacket. Plus, with the grayson, the armor can be removed for around town wearing, and I have another really hardcore riding jacket I can wear for long excursions. That's why I want this to be kind of a jack of all trades jacket. Like, I'm ok if I have to sacrifice the armor for the correct cut and fit.

Look over ebay's listings, or look in our classified, you can find a well broken in (pre-loved) jacket for a lot less than $800. Good used Schotts & Vanson's which are both made in USA come up all the time for around $300 and will last your lifetime if cared for.

I agree with AeroFan You would be surprised at the quality of those Schott and Vanson jackets second hand.
I bought a Schott off eBay that was over 30 years old and it looks bad ass and more than serves it purpose on my motorcycle. Not padded though.

Thanks for the input guys. The only thing is that I really don't want to buy a jacket that has been broken in by someone else. I'd like to buy new and have it conform and age with me. Thanks for all the suggestions! Keep em' coming if you can.

from google it looks alright, the sleeve is low cut and kind of short in proportion to the body however, since the brand is popular with harley people... probably it is also cut and sized that way... so if you can perhaps ask them to custom size the measurement it would be great.

revit flatbush is also pretty similar in style and more slim cut

I notice that you are considering the Fox Creek Grayson. I have a Fox Creek vented Bomber. It is an excellent and thick MC jacket, weighing in at 7 pounds which is the same as my Vanson competition weight and my heavy Johnson Leather MC jacket, as well as a few others. It comes broken in out of the box, and with its soft and supple leather, it is a pleasure to wear. For your $$ value, it really can't be beat.

Navetsea - Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I looked at the revit, and it is a seriously cool jacket. The only complaint I have, and I'm sorry for everyone reading if I'm being a pain in the butt at this point, but I really want my new jacket to have a bi-swing back because of my riding position. I find, regardless of the cut and quality of the jacket, a bi-swing gives me more mobility in my arms to lean forward; and I like the way it looks.

Peacoat- That's a long the lines of what I'm thinking. That just for the value of what you're getting the fox creek is the one to go with. Thick heavy duty naked cowhide (my favorite kind), armor accessible, classic good looks, made in america, small business owners, good customer service, lifetime warranty, etc. I know it's a different jacket, but can I ask you about the cut of your fox creek vented bomber? What I've heard about Fox Creek is that they can run big in the shoulders and have somewhat largely cut, and almost loose fitting sleeves. Can you confirm/deny it for me? Im just wondering because I know that Fox creek does do specific measurements if needed, and different factory cuts look different on people of different height and weight. For the record, I'm 6'1.5" and about 200 pounds.

I didn't find mine to be loose cut. I like a looser fit and usually get them a size or two larger. I have lost some weight since I got mine, so there is room for layering.
