Buco J-24H

Hello,

I cannot find any information about this Buco jacket.
Appears to be a j-24, with elastic stretch band, no belt loops - maybe a J24-H from the early 60s ? the cut seems very long

What's the value for this king of jacket in good used condition ? 300$ - 500$ - 1000$ - 1500$ ?

It's only worth what you're willing to pay for it. But looking at the condition, which looks good. I'd think between $400-$600 depending on size desirability. A nice size 38" just sold on eBay for $383.00 there's a size 44" w/ an opening bid of over $700 and it's been relisted a time or two. I guess it just depends on how bad somebody, somewhere wants it.

I actually really like those elastic side bands, a feature I find positively dreadful on most other jackets. For a period Buco made jackets for Sears that were rebranded as "Allstate" and they featured that exact detail.

True, realistically even $600 is way above the ceiling but people still regularly list Bucos over a grand and oftentimes even sell it for as much. Like that psycho from Colombia selling Fidelities and Brooks' for $800. Or the 618HH at a price higher than what a brand new jacket from Schott costs. . .
Japanese market is your best bet but I strongly believe that leather jacket prices will go down very quickly.

This is a beautiful jacket in any case but yeah, exactly that, it's worth what you're willing to pay for it. If I had the money and a jacket pops up that's 100% what I'm after, I would buy it regardless of the price. Though I have learned that sometimes it's best to be patient because an even better deal might come along at a fraction of a price.

Buco tag ? 2K + on the bay as everyone seems to hype them so much. Which is unfortunate for someone who want to collect some for cheap .

You can thank Rin Tanaka and his book for that. I don't understand why was this particular jacket chosen as the holy grail of leather jackets. It is a mass produced jacket, made from relatively uninspired leather - except for the really early ones - and most I've seen are busted. Don't get me wrong, they're very nice jackets but I would always value any custom Bates or Langlitz over these Bucos. I mean, any Bates you see on the Bay right now - that's it. There's just one like it. You miss it, it's gone forever. And yet they never even reach even half the price of a stinking, moldy chewed up Buco which had every zipper replaced about 11 times.

Vintage Cal jackets are literally 100 times superior in every possible regard. Early Langlitz Horsehide, man, nothing comes close. Hell, even Sportster or Sears Oakbrook wins in the looks department.



I'm not taking a piss at them but price-wise, they ought to be in the same range as vtg Schott 'cause that's the level they're at. Mostly any repro blows the original away and by miles. Just Google Aero J106 in CXL, you can only hope to find the original that looks so good. . .

My honest suggestion, forget about the original and get a repro.

Well the D-pocket deisgn on the j-24 like jacket is very nice and yeah Rin surely contribute to hype theses jackets.
My reply wasn't about myself, in fact I've indeed stoped thinking to buy some vintage buco.
Anyway since I wanted to wear it and vintage sizing can't suit me, the case is closed . Either too baggy or too short.
+1 for the repros since they upgrade the leather, the quality and details and, the fit anyway.

This one is the J-24 L (for "Long), because it was a longer model in the body. I guess it was made of steerhide (although there is no good pict of the label).
It's from the late 50's, but mostly early 60's, because of the rubber waist band. At the time, horsehide was beginning to be a bit scarcer to find. I'm interested around 500/600$ (depending on the condition-I can see front zipper is a replacement...)

Thank you @Mysteryo ! Mine doesn't have the Belt. I believe it's a 1959 J24H and it's horsehide ... my J24 steerhide is quite different !

Long time, my friend. I just came across this old post of yours while searching around for info on a BUCO jacket I have an interest in. I just had to tell you that you absolutely hit the nail on the head. If you want it, you want it.......it's just money....why not purchase some happiness with it? But, that advice you are giving about patience is all too true as well. It never fails that when I jump on an item that I have been always looking for, the very next day I find one in even better shape and for a bargain......too late for me!!
