Just got this Stetson. I don't have many westerns so I don't know that much about them. This one has a 3.5" brim and a 1" ribbon. Has a few moth nibbles and needs a good cleaning but other than that is in fine shape.

Great looking old hat Robert. I too bet the sweat was replaced. Someone more knowledgeable than I could tell from the liner an approximate vintage of that one.

Howdy! I 'm new here, but I've already seen a number of hat pictures that just make me want to drool! I'm especially enamored of hat styles from the Tom Mix era, with VERY wide brims and VERY high crowns. Some of the wide-brimmed hat styles from the 60's and early 70's, such as those pictured in the Fred Mueller, Miller Stockman, and Western Ranch Outfitters catalogs from that era are also attractive. The Mueller catalog from 1971 seemed to have a number of hat styles with 5-inch, high-rolled brims (I think nowadays they'd be referred to as "out-and-up" brims). One reason I'm so attracted to such styles is that I'm blind in my left eye due to a totally-detached retina, and a wide-brimmed hat seems to help take the strain off of my right eye as far as glare is concerned. Anyhow, if any of you have Western catalogs from that era, and especially the ones I just mentioned, could you please check them for pictures of wide-brimmed hat styles, and post them in the appropriate area? Or, if they've already been posted here, could you please direct me to the pictures in question? I'd like to be able to copy those pictures to my hard drive, so that I'll have a reference library of sorts to refer to when I talk to a custom hat maker about getting one of my own when my budget permits. Many thanks in advance for any help or assistance any of you can provide!

I came home and found a box with the Stetson Royal Deluxe Open Road in walnut I had ordered from Delmonico a couple of months back. I can't believe how soft it is compared to the standard 6x.

I know , I bought one in caribou , and it was amazing , then bought a SB . My 6X malfunctioned in/after the last rain it was in . Made me leery of 6X , the old 4X , and others seem to hold up fine . I bet the walnut is sharp .

Did the 6X come apart of just soak thru?

Very nice, Bob! The colors go great with the hat. Was it a Christmas present?

Thanks Jack! My wife gave the band/slide to me for Christmas (even after I had opened the Paul Bond boots I gave myself).

WOW ! That's Nice Bob ! Merry Christmas !

Thanks Michael! The slide was made by an old friend (even older friend to my wife). He has made several pieces for us including our wedding rings over 33 years ago.

Merry Christmas!

I like the new hatband and slide! Looks great!

GlamRockCowboy, Fairview is a lot closer to Covington TN than is Maryville (my home) - and Buckaroo Hatters will definitely outfit you with a wide-brim - however you imagine it should look. Major Moore is the handle for Mike Moore, proprietor, and they are on the web, you should pay them a visit right away! Call 'em and find out which days they are open, get yourself over there. No way will you walk out of there without a hat . . .

Thanks John!

I would love to visit Buckaroo. Perhaps there will be a Fedora Fest at that location again for 2017. I'd better start saving as I *know* I won't be able to leave without a new hat.
