If I ever receive it at all! The taupe fawn CD is pretty decent felt as well, and I like the Bushman as well. I love the look of the SBCD but it is stiff as can be. Hard to believe its the same company that made my "Stetson Open Road" made under license by Akubra, probably in the early 70s. Night and day difference in felt quality.

It is night and day from my BGG and taupe...could not be more different.
Those hats are beautiful... as was a Fed I just sold .
But my SB and this new cedar... both deluxe by the way... are just horrible

My first 3 Akubras bought abt 2 and a half years ago were all good to decent re stiffness and pouncing. My 4th and very last, an Imperial Fed was incredibly stiff. It will be my last Akubra.

See, that's the problem with you "vintage" and "custom" guys--you've lost the ability to appreciate a modern mass-produced hat that someone slammed together just to get it on the shelf and make room for the next hat they have to slam together while probably getting paid not much more than minimum wage.

My last Campdraft was on the bad side of the equation as well. I've owned about 8 Akubras, all were well-made and decent felt quality. The last Imperial SB CD has felt like many modern Stetsons, prone to spider-creasing when shaped, stiff as hell, and what looks to be a more tapered, lower-blocked crown. No more for me either. I'll keep my BGCD, and throw my big head business at Art or Tumwater. Maybe production has changed at Akubra, or I just got a stinker. No disrespect to their fans, I loved all mine except the last one. Frank

Get a Custom, I have like + 20 Akubras and had no complains at all, my friends have bought more than 20 and,they have only got one cardboard like Akubra Fedora, all the others are great for around 100 bucks each.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUT when you get a custom hat from the right hatter its addictive....

Nothing beats a custom beaver, so I will gladly save my $$$ until I get enough for a Gannon or NW, might be 2.5 times the price but, in my humble opinion, ita worth it 100 times.

About a year ago someone posted a link to an online article that stated Akubra was going to have to outsource the fur for their hats because of some sort of problem with the rabbit population in Australia. I can't help but wonder if that has somehow affected the quality of their hats; maybe they're adding more stiffener in an effort to counteract having to use inferior fur?

I remember that. I think there was also some issue with production costs, as in it was cheaper to import than use "in-house" sources.
