Hi all,

I'm still fairly new here, but I'd like to ask for your support in this month's Vector Vixen contest.

I'm an amateur pinup model with a real love for the past. For the last several years, I've devoted myself to keeping the spirit of our favorite eras alive. It would be a wonderful honor to be selected as pinup of the month in this contest, as I have been working hard at capturing the feel of classic 1930s-50s pinups.

In addition, if I win, it will be excellent publicity for my favorite local soda fountain (I work there part time to help out the owners), which was built in 1928 and is in real danger of being torn down in the very near future.

So, I graciously ask for your vote and promise I'll keep taking that Sentimental Journey!

Here is the link to the contest:

Vintagely yours,
Amanda

Thanks Kilgour Trout--I appreciate your input!

I do come up with my own ideas/themes, and the photographer offers suggestions as needed. Pinup modeling is something I do for fun—I love the 1940s so much that I enjoy all aspects of the era. Getting the opportunity to be in a well-known contest is the icing on the cake for me!

I really love vintage pinups (most of our house is decorated with our collection), so I strive to create the feel of classic cheesecake. There's a certain bit of innocence to most pinups of the 1930s-50s, which I think is lacking in today’s mainstream modeling (which can be very blatant, in-your-face sexy--without that bit of naiveté, modern stuff can be downright nasty!)

I'm actually going to be doing a couple of new shoots--one in a 1940s cigarette girl uniform, and one along the lines of Betty Grable's famous pose (with the B-17 'Sentimental Journey' as a backdrop.) I’ll post a couple of pics when they’re done!

Thanks again,
Amanda

Great!

Hey JDoll: You know... you hit it on the head when you describe the pin-up
genre as possessing a bit more "Innocense". Its perhaps that thing that I've always felt adds to their appeal. I think its also the sheer unappologetic feminity that hits home with "men of classic values and quality" aswell. I may not be describing that right but I hope you know what I mean. I think that the men of WW2 era, would know what I meant...something which probably made them fight harder eh.
In a day when the phrase has been coined (at least in My country) "Ah Canada...where the men are men....."and So are the Women" :D ;) the pin-up genre brings back a sense of Vivre la differance.

And Yes..please keep us posted on your new shoot.
Sounds great.

Warm Regards
Kilgour Trout

You’re absolutely right!

When I think of vintage pinups, particularly those by Elvgren, or Petty, there is a definite sense of innocent appeal. The subject knows you are watching, and she is responding with both a bit of modestly and a bit of flirtatiousness. Nowadays, everything (not just pinups) is so hardcore. Women today lay all their cards out on the table, right from the get go! Ironically, I distinctly remember my mother telling me to make the boys wonder—to leave them wanting more! Women of yesteryear abided by this philosophy--they how to use their charms to create that illusion and appeal. Women today seem to feel that doing so is too much of a bother. Interestingly enough, I get far more of a positive response from the opposite sex when dressed like a lady in dresses, skirts and heels—I think men enjoy seeing that old-fashioned allure, since it is so rare today!

Thanks again,
Amanda

Wow! Thanks! It was fun, and we gotta support the fellow lounge ladies that go for it! I voted for you before I even read your post, actually. You're the classiest this month for sure!

Hi all,

I just wanted to thank everyone who supported me in this contest—I am pleased to say that I am the Vector Vixen for the month of February!

Everyone had such nice things to say, and I really had a great time participating in the contest! It was a close race, and all of the contestants put in a fine effort all month long, making the competition all the more exciting. Now that the dust (or shall we say, powder and rouge) has cleared, I am truly thrilled to see that I came out the winner!

Thank you again!
Amanda ;)
