Warmth Aero vs ELC - B6/D1

In reference to B6's and D1's, are Aero and ELC the same in warmth?

I've got an Eastman B6, which I love but now that it's broken in it seems ever so slightly larger and only about 90% as warm as it used to be. I wonder if I should have gone a size smaller.

I was pondering an Aero D1, the shearling looks like it might be fluffier, so I was wondering if anybody knew if they were a little warmer?

How would an Aero D1 stack up to an ELC B3? I might go straight for the B3 if the are similar in warmth.

There isn't much difference between the B6 and D1 ... Regardless of the manufacturer ... The B6 is very slightly linger but the shearling is pretty much the same ( Eastman or Aero or BR for that matter )

The B3 / ANJ-4 / Irvin are altogether different beasts and much warmer ( but also heavier to wear and more cumbersome )

I'll second that , when out walking in the winter I can wear the ELC b-6 all day with a t shirt and sweater underneath . The ELC b-3 is a beast of a jacket but after a couple of hours with it on it becomes quite tiresome , nonetheless a stunning jacket though.

D-1 (ELC) is my most worn shearling over here in the good old UK. Irvin does come out to play but not very often as it's generally too warm....

So an Aero D1 wouldnt be any warmer than an Eastman B6?

Another question. I've seen a whole lot of people who have both a B6 and D1 say they gravitate to the D1 the most? What about a D1 is preferable?

IMHE the D-1 has a nice Un-fussy simple design, pockets & looks like the younger thinner brother of the B-3

I have an Aero B6 I had it custom made and it is in the same thickness fleece as a B3, I don't know if this was a mistake as I didn't ask for this however I love the jacket and actually prefer the thicker fleece, i'm also fairly sure Aero would make one in the thicker fleece if that is what you asked for.

I prefer the D1 over the B6 but not owning either I can't comment on which is warmer, however I do have an ELC Irvin which doesn't get worn very often as it isn't cold enough so I'm guessing when you chaps reach for your D1/B6 when the weather calls for it, I'm grabbing my B-10.

That's about right I'd say, or my N-2B if I'm on a nylon vibe

It hasn't been mentioned yet but I avoided a D1 because the zip pockets have a tendency to scratch your watch, although it's not a problem if you don't wear one.

I have an ELC redskin B3 and an Aero D1. The B3 is definitely warmer but much more cumbersome and heavy. I was able to wear my B3 easily in -20-30degrees Celsius with a sweater but it got too hot once indoors. Also,due to the weight, you get shoulder fatigue after an hour or so of wearing it. I believe the ELC B3 is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch shearling. I got an Aero D1 with 1/2 inch shearling and it is plenty warm even up to the minus late teens (Celsius) with proper layering (i.e.: sweater and shirt). It is also much lighter than the B3 and much more comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Once the temp drops to below -15 degrees celsius, I prefer to wear my Canada Goose parka which is longer, lighter and less fatiguing than the B3 and arguably as warm. I don't wear my B3 anymore because the D1 does the job for my WWII shearling fix and the B3 is also at least 2 sizes too big for me now

I personally have pretty much lived in my Aero Irvin for the past few winters. it rarely gets up into double figures from October to March up here, and for much of the time it gives just the right amount of warmth.
The ANJ-4 is great for v early starts and for when the mercury heads towards zero.

Xopher, nice guitar, something I'm still in process of learning to play.

As for warmth, I think any of these shearling jackets would get you quite a ways down the path as far as being warm. However I've found I just don't enjoying wearing any leather jacket to be really warm in very cold temps anymore. Under 10F, I go for wool or even a down parka as it's just a lot easier to wear. The leathers do a good job keeping out wind, but the skin itself gets c o l d and this can make you feel colder, not warmer.

So while there are good lining options, I keep mine to mostly un-insulated and just basic cotton or wool tartan linings (that really don't add warmth or bulk) and layer some underneith. After temps drop to under 10F, out comes the parka. That's not that common in Iowa this year!

I've never owned an Aero so can't comment much that way, I have (and am selling) an Eastman D1 that I replaced with with a Good Wear B6. The Goodwear shearling is less curled and seems more dense and fluffy but both seem about the same for warmth. However if the wind is up I do notice and miss the windflap that the D1 has and the B6 lacks.

I previously had an Eastman Irvin which was toasty warm even at -20 Celsius but I found to bulky to drive with etc. I love the bi-swing back of the B6 easiest shearling to move in I've owned.

Yea I've noticed the same with my ELC B6, no wind flap is, in my opinion, the only design flaw of this jacket. If it had one I feel like a could squeeze another 5 degrees out of her. Surprising how much it makes a difference
