Atomic 50s Score in Long Beach

Found this one at the Long Beach flea market. Spotted the pattern from a good 15 feet, and thought it was either going to be a woman's jacket, too big, too small, or in poor shape. Turned out I hit the jackpot. Thirty-five bucks and a perfect fit.

Thought it just HAD to be American made. Wrong! It came from Munich.

You suck... you know that... that could have been my jacket.

That's why I don't have friends... their clothes always look better than mine and it can't be taken.

That was a great find in that condition. Usually the lighter colors look terrible after fifty years or so. This doesn't that is for sure. :eusa_clap

Went to the the Northern Soul dance last night with this jacket and it almost didn't come back in one piece. Some hipster jerk was dancing like an idiot and my friend warned him twice about his flailing hands and feet. Next thing I know they're going fisticuffs on the dance floor and I'm between them. All I kept thinking was 'Why didn't I take off this jacket?'

That was a great find in that condition. Usually the lighter colors look terrible after fifty years or so. This doesn't that is for sure.

Though I've already had it dry-cleaned, I'm wondering if I should give have a professional whitening job done on it. Can't tell if it's supposed to be cream or white.

I was just talking with a suitings buyer for Lord & Taylor and she said that some mills are still producing 50s style fabric, but because the tailors/suit manufacturers are cautious, we never see anything made from them. Joe from MyTailor sent me info on one of his suppliers here in NY who supposedly has vintage bolts along with some new fleck material. I'm going to try and get over there soon to see what they have. I've been putting it off because I really don't have the jack to have anything made right now, and if I see something I love, of course I'm going to have to have it.

Just a guess for your particular case but I think it is supposed to be that color. I have seen several similar in style that were creme. It kind of makes sense when you think about how hard it would be to keep it clean if it were white.

One way I have found that you can check the color pretty well is to go to the edge of where it is lined on the inside. You can generally see if the color is different there.

Geez, if they still have it out there then it would be a great material to use. Let us know what you find out.
