In the Mummy with Brendan Fraiser, the gut that plays Johnathan is wearing a Linen or Seersucker suit. But the bottom half is either Plus two with putties or trousers with putties. Which would be correct and did one ever wrap pant legs in putties? I'm trying to put together a 30sish desert outfit since I live in a desert.

putties

Putties are the wool or fabric wrap type leggins that you see often in picture of military and civilians from England in the desert. I also believe that British pilots wore them, maybe Paddy can through somemore light on them.

I'm really just looking for some help with an authentic style desert outfit.

I can't help you directly, but it seems "The English Patient" would be another good movie to consider.

Also, a number of A&E Poirot mysteries take place in the desert, one in Egypt involving a purported mummie's curse and another in Baghdad involving a woman with a jealous ex-husband.

Oh, so that's what Putties are. I know them as Leggings. I don't know much about the RAF flight uniform, but I know that the pilots didn't wear Leggins or Putties in this case. They wore flight boots over their flight suits. Same with the AAF pilots.

In my opinion, a correct summer/dessert outfit would be a cream or white linen suit with a nice panama hat.

American Doughboys in WWI used to where them too (putties), they were called gaiters.

Ok, those are leggings I believe. If they have laces up the sides then they are leggings. They were used in WWI and early WWII.

As for puttees, I have seen them. I'm not very sure of the way they were put on or the roll they had in the past wars but, I'm sure you would be wearing them if you were on Safari or some kind of trip to a far away place where there are lots of snakes and bugs.
