The more I look at the image, the more I want to copy all about it. Just like the Olcott, which has all the lines, with colors extrapolated from a silver nitrate print. I searched high and low for another shot of Slats wearing this hat. It was a portrait for his beginning of his coaching career. I am going to search the student newspaper for images of him traveling with the team, maybe a hat shot there. I'm thinking of a trip to Mike's on Monday to begin the design process.@Redfokker : Since you flipped the negative around in Photshop, I'm looking at the bash on the Slats hat and in that view it looks more like the front brim is lined up over his eyes, but the point/pinch of the crown is aiming off to his right. Then he has the right side brim flipped up. What a fabulous crease on that hat! Ol' Slats had some style and attitude goin' on there, Red.
Do you think you'll duplicate everything on this one, including the bash, or just the dimensions at first and ease into an assymetrical bash later on down the road?
Remember my Penman custom steel? The front crease got "pushed" and has that same effect (without the turned up right brim, though).

Love the colors in that weave. And the model is super as well. Great hat, youthful and classy at the same time.Mike worked on the "western" Cuenca weave straw hat for my daughter. It was about 59cm, and the cloth sweat was sewn on with nylon thread and my/her forehead like a bed bug eatin' at your skin. The hatband was unremarkable, but the straw in the weave has three different colors... kind of a reddish brown, dark brown/black, and a little grey.
Mike reblocked the hat to 56cm, sewed in a nice leather sweatband, and steamed in a teardrop crease on top. It fits daughter perfectly and looks sweet with the new burgundy pug.
Before: looks good, fits bad, itches bad...
After: Looks better, fits perfect and feels great!
I would say the AWESOME category!!I got out a magnifying glass and counted the WPI. Did it several times on different places and came up at about 900 WPI. Not sure what category that puts it in.
