Thanks for the tip, @Fanch, you are right. I will try on stock jackets as well. Dangerous...

Can anybody recommend good pubs and bars in Edinburgh?

The primary reason for trying on stock jackets would be to properly size yourself for ordering something not in stock, using whatever is tried on as "fit" jackets ... unless something(s) you try on in stock you can't live without. :D

My trip to Galashiels was rather enjoyable.

At the Aero factory, everybody was friendly and I could sense the passion they put into their work. Denny took the time to help me plan my Board Racer jacket. First I put on a few fit-jackets and to my surprise, size 42 seemed to fit me well; that’s two sizes bigger than I would have thought – usually I wear M or 40 in jackets.

In minute detail, we discussed the customisation options. We went through my long list (see earlier posts here) and he happily answered all my questions. Furthermore Denny explained several options I hadn’t thought about. To give you an idea: We spent a long time talking about zippers and which one to use where (pockets, front and arms). I changed some of the decisions I had made before, because the detailed information enabled me to make better decisions.

Denny gave me the feeling that he wanted me to have a jacket I would be absolutely happy with.

We also had a look at the archive and the workshop and I tried on other jacket types (already thinking about ordering a second one next year).

The people who work at Aero produce great jackets, they seem to be passionate about they do and stand behind their product. I would recommend everybody to visit the factory; it is well worth it.

Not yet, but almost there. Still have to let them know about the lining. Originally I had planned cotton drill, but there are so many great tartans... Will visit the Lochcarron website again tomorrow. Then I will wait for my jacket.

Now, my Board racer jacket is ready and will be shipped. When it arrives I will post photos.

It took a little bit longer, because I made some changes to my order in late January and early February. I am am not in a hurry though.

My Board Racer jacket arrived on Monday.

I've worn it a few times since then. The weather is already warm and sunny here in the South of England. In the evening it's still a bit chilly – good to wear this with a t-shirt. Here are a few snapshots. Fit-pics will follow as soon as possible.

I like this design so much better without the center seam down the back. Did it cost more for a 1-panel back?
