Just a question for those of you who are able to exercise your constitutional right to carry, and for any current or former LEO's. I understand the concept of collecting firearms for all of the reasons that people normally cite, but do you carry all of your different ones or do you have one or two that you carry regularly, and use the rest for sport or target shooting? I only have three handguns, but I practice regularly only with the one I carry, feeling like intimate familiarity and muscle memory are paramount to effective concealed carry. I'm a diehard believer in the 1911 platform, and concealed carry a Commander in .45. I'm just curious about your feelings on this. My thanks to you all for an entertaining and enlightening thread!

My Glock26 is my primary carry. I have a Polish P-64 when I need a slim profile. Taurus PT99 is primary HD, with a SIG P220 right beside it. Everything else is for range, hunting, CAS or just part of the collection.

You are finding the hard truth regarding carry. The old rule of "No gun to big to shoot or too small to carry." When able, I too carry a Commander or Sig 220. Usual carry is a Sig 239 and my "always" gun is a Sig290RS.

There may be states where the "carry gun" must be stipulated in reference to the permit. Though I have no first hand experience, I think that may have been the case back when it was slightly easier to get a permit here in CA. -- It was never easy to legally carry here but there used to be a couple of counties, like Modoc, that would do it before the current morass of laws closed in. If anyone knows more about this I'd be interested.

Anyway, it would be worth being sure before anyone got in trouble.

Nice revolver! I'd say you're way past due to bust the cherry on that one!

I've only gotten rid of two firearms that I've owned and one was a M29. Honestly, I just wasn't shooting it or using it like I envisioned, so when I got into CAS I traded it in for a Ruger Vaquero in .44 Mag. I've regretted it ever since. It's not like I was strapped for cash, plus I took a hit on it too. Oh well, live and learn.

I've got a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in 45 LC Doc. I haven't shot it either. I didn't know 44 mags were used in Cowboy Action Shooting competitions. Are you using light loaded cartridges in it?

.44 Spl. I kind of walked into CAS from the back side. I had the M29 and a M94 Trapper and was loading .44 Mag/Spl, so just stuck with .44Spl .

I carry either a Glock 43 (9mm) or a Commander size Sig 1911. The challenge when carrying any 1911 is concealing it or keeping it from printing so I seldom carry the Sig. Personally I think if one is going to assume the responsibility of carrying a firearm then they should settle on one gun and leave the others at home. If the circumstances require drawing a firearm one doesn't need to be thinking about how that gun operates (safety? hammer? etc).

I've got one in 12 gauge that I inherited from my grandfather when I was sixteen. For a long while, it was my only shotgun and I've hunted almost every type of game indigenous to North Carolina with it. Ducks, geese, quail, dove, deer, squirrel, rabbit, and maybe some other critters that I've forgotten. I've no idea how many rounds I've fired through it over the last forty-five years, but it must be thousands. It has never jammed a single time.
