Thats ok J. I'm just horsin roun. Get yer cloth sweat snug cuz it will stretch and losen up after frequent wear.

So the 60 arrived today. Feels REAL snug. Can wear it down where it belongs, but feels tight. Not unbearably tight, can make it work if it's the way it's supposed to be.

Sound right, or send her back?

Tough call. After a few wearings it may feel just right.

So, I've worn the 60 a few times, and I swear it's getting TIGHTER, even though it's a cloth sweat. Have read about fingers being able to be inserted, etc. Any good rule of thumb? Can't insert any fingers, but it's not giving me a headache or anything. Just curious if I should see if they'll swap for a 62, or stick it out...

Do you store it on a hat stretcher/band block?If not,that may be the easy fix.

That's the thing with handmade straw hats... and the sizing question, being done by people other than the weavers. You can measure and measure again and still be off a little. I can take a stack of 60 cm hats and one will fit and the next one is too big, and the next one is too tight. I have seen this happen in shopping malls, in showrooms and quaint little shops, all in Ecuador.

If it's seriously too tight, maybe measure it well and get the numbers for the inside sweat, length and width. Send them back your hat and tell them how much longer and/or wider it needs to be to fit you right (no matter what the size tag says). My first Cuenca hat is size 63 cm, and fits just a hair loose on me... but my size is actually about 59.5 cm!

Simple. Just get a "Hat Jack" and stretch if and when needed. It's really that simple.

Try it without. Should be fine and maybe need an occasional stretch infrequently. If not wet the cloth sweat only and let it dry on the stretcher.

It sounds like you are wearing the hat too low on your head. FWIW

I've been wearing it where it looks right, as I feel a Panama should. Think they look goofy if they're too high on the head, no?

Can easily fit my fingers between my ears and the brim, and the crown just almost touches the top of my head. Is this not right?

It really depends on what's comfortable for you. Some people wear their hats pulled down snug, others wear them pushed back, and others wear them tilted to one side or the other. As long as they're comfortable and you like the way they look on you, that's how you should wear them.
