Sources of Irvin trousers?

The year, since my original post, has been unkind.

Broken elbow, broken collarbone, 4 lost teeth (the front-middle ones, upper side). And they say cycling is supposed to be good for you!

The smashed teeth damaged my upper jaw on their way out. The whole area has been a bit fragile. (and I have a long year of dental restoration work ahead of me ...)

No choice - not wanting to poke around with a razor, I had to grow a moustache for the first time in my life!

Maybe it was prompted by the facial hair, which made me look a little like my old RAF grandad. Or maybe it was a sense of bloody-mindedness in reaction to an unhappy situation... I went ahead and bought the rest of the outfit, after all, though none of the options were perfect matches.

- 1936-pattern boots (Lewis Leathers),
- trousers, goggles, 'helmet' (Aviation Leathercraft).










I think, despite the authenticity and colour mismatches, that they go alright together with the Aero jacket.

The shearling is slightly teddy-bearish in the trousers and helmet, consistent with Aviation Leathercraft's infamous style, but it doesn't seem to matter too much in these auxilliary garments, especially in the trousers where the most visible shearling is hidden under the jacket.

The Lewis boots are terribly comfortable. The trousers, being rather thick in the ALC way, are very warm indeed! All taken together I will be superbly cosy when I'm out under starry skies on frosty nights.

Certain elements, however, are not up to scratch. My moustache leaves much to be desired. I'll have to learn how to (very gently) trim it properly!

Sorry to hear about your accident, I did a swan dive from a bicycle years ago which shattered some front teeth as well so I know how much the whole thing sucks.

Bit of a long story. Don't honestly have the appetite/energy to go into it! The overshortened-to-the-point-of-almost-being-false version would be that a car overtook me needlessly and then slammed hard on the brakes, causing me to smash into the back of them and land face-first on the tarmac. But it was nobody's fault really. Just completely horrible luck, with a bit of rush-hour drivers' impatience thrown in. (The worst moments of bad attitude were when, whilst still lying in the middle of the road, I overheard some pushy and entitled car drivers swearing at the good samaritans who were holding back the traffic from running me over).

Amazing really... we all see completely reckless cyclists, all the time, taking liberties and trying to scoot through tiny spaces or skip traffic lights. On their phone. Or with both hands in their pockets! Whilst wearing no helmet. And then a hyper-cautious, responsible cyclist gets trolleyed.

It reminds one of an old joke - "I'd rather be lucky than good any day!"

But this is completely off-topic, my apologies.

Oh btw I forgot to explain - the goggles were just for fun, no keeping-warm / astronomy role to those. They were cheap compared to the cost of everything else and made me laugh, so why not!

P.S... Here's a rubbishy photo of what the trousers/jacket look like without a bulky pair of jeans (instead of straightforward, thin and nicely-folding trousers) underneath and the whole issue stuffed incompetently into the top of the boots!



P.P.S. Forgive the socks... My Wing Cdr grandad used to wear even brighter, all-yellow/orange ones, so it could be worse!

I would have said, Try the Soviet military 70's era looking ones, if you can find them on they bay they are cheap and rugged as hell. They look like Luftwaffe style ones actually..they come in black mostly but look the part and the price is right. But those look great on you.

Sorry it happened and I wish you super fast recovery!

There is a pair of shearling pants with suspenders. Ad says they belonged to her grandfather. Looks real good shape for being original $100.00. If I had a need for them I'd get them.

Where did you get those Escape boots? Those are Awesome! I want some!!!

I feel that the trousers are out there, I so wish I had the Money for the Trousers to walk around in during the Winter.. I wear flimsy scrubs to work, as I have a job in the Medical field. One day during a cold morning I received compliments from my co-workers about My Jacket, I told them thank you but I am really freezing from the waist down.. they all just looked and Laughed..

I know it's a bit off topic but I bought a pair of Icebreaker Oasis leggings, they're made of very thin merino wool so they go under jeans without causing any bulk, they keep the legs warm when it gets very cold, which it doesn't tend to get very much in Ireland, unfortunately for my sheepskin collection.
