I found this interesting article on the top 10 planes that changed history. Excellent read!

I love this plane

I think this is my all time favorite airplane. and I have a great book "The Dc-3: 50 Years of Legendary Flight" by Peter M. Bowers which has great photos and history. I have been in the cockpit of this airplane, and have started the engines..but have never flown in one.
My friend has one..at the HWD Ariport.

The neat thing about the DC series was it's swept back wing design, which only came about due to a complete screw up of original design. The original design had the wings designated as standard straight wings, but the engineers had mis figured the CG of the plane. The only way to make the original wings work was to completely redesign the front of the cabin. Instead of doing that, they looked at the point that the wing tips HAD to be in order to support the CG (center of gravity), and decided to place a 'plug' between the body of the plane and the original straight wings, causing the swept back appearance OF those wings, and the rest is history....all due to an engineering screw up...
