Thanks! Yes, I would get this in Vicenza with a cotton sateen lining. (And you're right, shoulder cannot be adjusted, but sleeves can be lengthened.)

Haha! At this point my taste is for the perfectly horizontal ones, but who knows, if I spend more time on this forum, I may develop a thing for slanted ones!!

I prefer the 40; you may want to add a tiny bit of room to the 38 somehow. Seems you're in between. Just my preference. They're kind of worn either snug or semi-snug.

Yeah, I figured the J-100 was a pretty snug silhouette, so that's why I'm leaning towards the 38. It will certainly be the trimmest fitting jacket I own, if I go with that size!
It was mainly the 'jacket pushing up from under your chin' effect that got me
That'll be a comfortable jacket... I have samples of the vicenza and the sateen, and they're great.

In trying on the size 38 (the smaller size) a bit longer last night, I noticed a little discomfort in the left armhole being too high. So, as many people on this very thread have suggested, I think I will go with the size 40 but ask for a taper of one or two inches. Carrie has provided me the following very helpful information about tapering this jacket pattern: "Regarding the taper, it begins just under the arm holes and gradually tightens as it moves down the side of the jacket. The full amount of the taper starts about half way down the side. There is no flare...the waist and hem line are part of the taper."
This could be just what I'm looking for! I like that the taper starts as high as the arm holes, because that will (hopefully) help reduce the excess material in the back of the jacket on the size 40.
Does anyone have any pics of a tapered J-100/Board Racer? I'm curious as to what this looks like in person, and hopefully it doesn't look strange. (I know I can look at pics of the Cafe Racer, but to me, because that has the side panels, it's not really a good indicator of how the J-100 would look tapered.)

Do you mean that the taper wouldn't even be noticeable when wearing the jacket? (I suppose if I laid the jacket flat on the floor, I would be able to see the taper...)
Sorry, completely missed this message before. I meant to say that a bit of taper wouldn't hurt the look of the jacket, if your waist and hips are narrower than your chest it simply helps to look fitted, and avoids the excess material lower down.

When wearing a tight fitting jacket with higher arm holes it is extremely important for ease of getting on and off to go with a smooth finished lining. I find cotton drill to be too restrictive while dressing. I highly recommend a cotton sateen type lining- It makes a huge difference.
