I grew mine out mustache first, then beard. It all started with Movember and raising awareness for men's health. I just don't get the 3-day growth look... its like the kids are playing dress-up. They're pretending to be "mature" and macho. A few can pull it off, but most are comic.

I agree 100%; either grow a proper mustache and beard, or don't. Unless you're a working actor or model who has to maintain that "3-day growth" look for a role or photo shoot, you look like a lazy slob.

I remember rolling my eyes at a match.com ad a few years ago which showed an inane looking, unshaven type smugly announcing "I stop shaving three days before a first date in order to have the perfect amount of stubble."

The absurd eighties 'designer stubble' trend was beautifully parodied in The Wedding Singer.

I'll never forget the appearance of Michael Cudlitz' character on the The Walking Dead" Mostly because of his incredible handlebar mustache. Also, I think Ron Perlman pulls one off wonderfully. Both are modern celebrities. Let's hope there are more to come, I think it's a great look.
