First Post: Feedback on New Aero Board Racer Please

I’ve been lurking on the Forum for a couple of months or so sucking in the collective knowledge of the forum and generally enjoying geeking out on leather jackets.

Having sent my measurements up to the lovely people at Aero , I promptly ignored Holly’s advice that it wouldn’t work on me and bought a 40” Cafe Racer from their “sale rail”. Of course she was right and I was wrong so back it went, to be replaced today by this 40” Board Racer, also from the sale rail. I just wanted to see the how the BR cut would look on me and work out sizing to be honest.

But it kind of blew me away. I *think* I’ve decided to keep it, but before I finally decide I’d love to get some feedback from the good people of the Fedora Lounge.

So - what do you think folks? As say, I think I know the answer but it’s a lot of money so I guess I’m seeking confirmation from the cognoscenti: Is this the jacket for me?

Thanks in advance, really looking forward to receiving honest feedback.

Best
Steve
PS not really sure how to upload photos so sorry if they are at the start not the end . . .

Looks great to me, but it’s what you think that matters. Fit is very much a personal taste and is also style dependant so be aware now that others with different tastes may make other comments about how they think a board racer should fit.

The pictures strongly indicate it fits exactly how a BR should fit. That center vertical back seam seems to make all the difference in the world in terms of a snug fit where it counts, specifically closely following the contour of your spine. Well done.

Please explain why you didn't like the fit of the 40" cafe racer in comparison to this BR
Asking because I am going the other direction. I have a BR I purchased a year ago and have never been satisfied with the fit. It's a 42 seal Vicenza. It has always felt to tight in the shoulders and armpits and I don't enjoy wearing it. It is pretty well broken in for being a year old and I just don't like it....so, back to the drawing board.
I was thinking maybe a CR would be a better option and fit for me and interested in feedback of how these two jackets in the same size differ in fit.
Also thinking of going fqhh or steerhide rather than Vicenza, but that's an entirely new thread. Then there is black vs brown , what to do....

Welcome to the lounge Stevie!
The jacket looks absolutely perfect from the pictures. Many of us here have had jackets custom made to our measurements that don't look nearly this nice.
Is it comfortable, can you move freely and do what you need to do while wearing the jacket? If the answer is yes then I think you have nailed it.

Fit looks good but that enormous wind flap really ruins the look in my opinion. Personally I’d probably just have a tailor remove it, they can usually do it relatively cheaply and it would avoid the hassle of postage and waiting for a new one etc. Unless you intend to ride or you just really really hate wind, this giant wind flap seems entirely unnecessary to me. Truthfully even my riding jacket lacks a wind flap and it only effects me when the air is really cold.

Hi Seank.

Photos below of the 38” CR (the Cordovan one) and my new 40” BR (the black one) for comparison. (Sorry I think I said the CR was a 40” in my original post). Both jackets in the same FQHH leather.

Also some notes of the actual measurements for each jacket.

The CR has the bellows type shoulders so basically a LOT more room in the shoulders. If you’re blessed with a gymnast’s physique with narrow waist and broad shoulders then CR would suit. For me though the BR is the one!

Wow, thanks very much everybody for the feedback, which overwhelmingly supports my view. It’s a keeper!

The question was asked about comfort and mobility. The arms are tight and there’s some resistance when bending but I sense that will ease off in time.

I do agree with the storm flap comments - I’m not sure I would have specified it myself, but I can live with it. Also it has a simple black lining whereas I think I’d have gone for a crazy tartan. Maybe one day i’ll sort out both issues but no biggie for now.

Thanks again, folks. And also a big nod to Holly at Aero for gently guiding me to the right place.

Wow, thanks for the pics. From the back view that CR looks WAY bigger in the shoulders than what I expected! Maybe I'll need to size down from what I currently have in a BR to accomplish the fit I am looking for if I end up going with a CR style. Again, thanks for the reply!
