I'd vote for the Taupe Fawn. I'll end up ordering a Fed IV or CD in this color at some point.
Silverbelly is a color I'm just not interested in.

Finally I got my hats today.
And I do have to admit that I decided to buy them after seeing a couple of posts and photos, specially the photos posted by Cheese Marple in "what hat are you wearing" thread. That particular bashing style was my favorite.

Sadly, I am leaving tomorrow morning for a week. Duty calls. I guess my lunch and evenings will be searching this forum while I'm away. Of course, I'd be interested to know any helpful tips, and "watch out" warnings for a hat bashing n00b.

Nice pair. My advice would be to read, read, read while you are on the road. There are a number of great tutorials on creasing hats. And, look at pictures, save them and look at them again. I have never played with a Akubra, but I understand they are kind of a different sort of felt to deal with. Are you taking one with you? A quick center dent crease just for some shape is a good start. I would use Google, with Fedora Lounge added to the search on creasing. The term "bash" is also used, but has kind of fallen out of style with Lounge denizens. There is a humongous thread for Akubras, with plenty of good advice to absorb. Kind of a long answer, but you will find folks to be very helpful and kind around here. We all have been where you are now in the hobby. When you do get them like you want, post the images on the "What Hat Are You Wearing Today" thread. You should also post these on the new hats thread as well. There is a dedicated thread for just about everything around here, so you don't need to start a new one, just slide into the established ones out there.

If I can be of any assistance, feel free to send a PM.

Wait a minute. Red, you've never owned an Akubra? That hardly seems possible :)
I know they don't compare with vintage or your customs but....not even a Campdraft? I'd be careful who you let know that; they might ban you from the Lounge. :) :) :)

A Moonstone CD or Fed IV is on my short list. So many hats, too little $$. If I would quit ordering customs, I would be closer to this goal. Of course, this week has two Ebay snags.

Look great. I have the Deluxe in silverbelly; considering a grey one. The wind trolley is great for windy days; I wish you could order the Fed with one in place.

Creasing a new hat is a joy. With my Campdraft, I gave it a very simple centredent and a narrow pinch at the front. I also steamed the Brime down at the font to give it more of a 'fedora' look. The narrow ribbon gives it the impression of being a very tall crown, so there's plnty of room for something like a teardrop or a C. If you look on the hat forum, there are a couple of useful threads on steaming and bashing.

Those are really nice hats. I have a silver belly and a moonstone, a joy to work with. Have fun, and welcome!

I am also waiting for my new BG Campdraft (already have a Stylemaster and an Angler) which is on its way from AU.
I am curious about creasing since some folks here advise to definitely steam the bash, others say it's not necessary at all (?).
And also - (@ Edward) - I thought the front brim would snap down naturally i.e. with no need for steaming?

You can dry bash them, but steam will make it more pliable and easier to work to get the crease you want. As far as the brim, every brim is flanged, some more "cupped" than others. While the brim will snap down, some, like Edward, perhaps want a more dramatic angle to it, or maybe want it flatter, etc. it's just a way to put your mark on the hat.

My first couple of Akubras I held over the steaming kettle, heart beating wildly, and then laboriously "crafted" their shapes. Now, as an old hand, I just use the Edward technique and shape 'em raw. What I've found is that the hat seems to know what it wants to do anyway and will resist anything else. You sort of have to just go with it. I have both of the above hats, and they're two of my most often worn. Great hats.

Thank you folks for the suggestions and helpful advises. They are certainly good start.
I was also going through akubra campdraft thread albeit at snail pace to schedule in here and making notes in here. Gotta wait till I'm home and start the "implementation phase" :)

Oh I know. I'm not buying anymore hats until my number comes up with Gannon....and then some deal comes up on eBay or Etsy or here on the Lounge or....? I don't really need to contribute to my 401k when I could have another vintage hat!
