Daniele, Thanks! It will be interesting to see what happens. It might be worth sending an email and see if they respond with detailed lists.
As you saw Steve with 600,000 US dollars you can buy the Cappellificio Cervo including everything (land, factory, machinery, brands and warehouse stocks), without debts or credits. Of course you can send the request to have in detail what you want to bid for.
So to speak, the basic amount required for the auction is a bargain. I visited the Cappellificio Cervo and only the building, an example of industrial archeology, is worth most of the amount requested, without naming the brands for sale: Barbisio, Cervo, Bantam and Bantam gold. All right, let's bring patience and see how it will end.

It's not clear to me that anything has changed.
For the situation in Borsalino I would like to see in the next days or weeks what will happen, I have some assumptions, but patience is a must.
There is a magnificent documentary in Italy, 90 minutes long, dedicated to the history of Borsalino.
It is called: Borsalino City. I hope I can post it here, in the meantime, look for it, it's worth it.

If only I had the money I could be in the hatting business and with names of quite the stature too.

I have a copy of the DVD Borsalino City (I know it's old fashioned, but I had to have it). As you say: highly recommended.

Daniele, Yes it will be interesting to see if there will a bid for the entirety. I might send an email and see what happens. :)

Yes I heard about this Borsalino City documentary. I see now (via Stefan) that it's available on DVD. Is it streaming somewhere?

I see it is now available for purchase on the Borsalino City website (have to scroll down). Not sure if they will ship to America (checking). Also available on German Ebay.

Took a chance on this beauty without knowing the size and guess what.... too small. Stamped 4 1/2 inside the sweat and 4 on the paper label. Has anyone seen this liner? I haven't been able to find a comparison anywhere.

I think this article of LA STAMPA the main Piedmontese newspaper, can help you to understand something of the complex situation at Borsalino. I also invite you to forget about newspaper or social articles written outside Italy. They are often poorly informed and have no analysis of the situation, except that of international agencies.

The Borsalino judgment and those wary judges on Camperio's plans. What's behind the failure
The Italian-Swiss entrepreneurre had committed itself to stay for at least ten years, to retain the staff and confirmed that it had 14 million available, as well as another dozens transferable from a company to an approved arrangement. Figures that fail with fade

It is a war of the worlds for Borsalino. Two antithetical conceptions are compared: on one side the juridical world of the procedures, of the respect of the rules; on the other, the entrepreneurial one that mainly aims at the result. For this reason, the case does not exclusively concern the fate of a hat factory, but the relationship between public authorities and private initiative.

The judges of the Court of Alessandria in the ruling list a long series of circumstances that give substance to their conviction: the Borsalino board (Marco Moccia, Saverio Canepa, Raffaele Grimaldi) and Philippe Camperio have tried to circumvent the rules of the bankruptcy law governing the 'Competing bids', then essentially presented a 'closed' arrangement, 'considering that the Court did not consider and / or grasped' that it was a 'pre-packed' package.
Instead the judges understood very well that Camperio's movements between June and August - the purchase of the brand and 34% of Borsalino shares - were aimed at cutting off any competitor, to settle as the only possible solution to the crisis. And with what guarantees given that, among other things, "of Haeres B Collective Sa (the company with which the entrepreneur rents the company, editor's note), a Luxembourg company, nothing is known as to solidity and solvency"? "At the moment the only certain guarantee is that provided by Finexis Sa (manager of the fund Am Investment Sca; ed) for the amount of 5 million". Which however is not little.

On the other side there is an entrepreneur who was called to save Borsalino. Okay, he chose the same board established at the time by the bankruptcy Marenco and the judges have always shown little confidence, but he has just arrived a few million euro spent: for example 8 to transact the story with the 'Revenue Agency (but the judges also disputed that: "It had not been authorized") and then those for machinery and to pay thirteenth and backward holidays (but not even those authorized). All actions that, together with others, corroborate the offense of preferential bankruptcy, not having respected the "par condicio creditorum", in short, having paid in full creditors (the same Mediocredito) that instead would receive only 30%.

When the first agreement is revoked Camperio probably begins to fear the worst, which will happen on time. Since he defends his interests (the judges ironically that "he is presented as a benefactor", but obviously he is not) moves before others do: buy the shares and also the famous brand that now the judges define the "Main asset", but of whose security nobody has worried at one time: at a certain point Mediocredito could sell it to whomever he wanted. Could a large foreign group, maybe Chinese, arrive, and at that point?

The Court - but not only for him, even some commentators - says that there are no assurances that Camperio maintains Borsalino where it is. This applies to everyone in the event of a post-bankruptcy event. Camperio undertook to remain for at least ten years, to retain personnel and confirmed that it had 14 million available, as well as another dozen transferable from investment companies to an approved arrangement. Figures these last with the failure fade. Just as the Revenue Agency could make up again, since the transaction was with the entrepreneur and not with Borsalino. In short, who has done a good deal in this story is not understood. But the figure that unites company and city, including justice, is very bad.

#SAVE BORSALINO
This is the proud Borsalino family of workers.
Take your time and see the video on the link.
There are many, in the factory, at the exit of 17. There are young hired boys of twenty, ladies close to retirement, men who have seen Panama and Fedora for fifteen years. Without getting tired. They are the soul of Made in Italy. It is a heterogeneous, healthy world, made up of those in that factory, and in that name, they believe so much. And not just for the salary at the end of the month.
It is "a boast" to work at Borsalino, it is "an Italian shame" that the company is declared bankrupt. And so, we must do everything to save it: «#saveBorsalino» is the slogan launched to raise awareness on the absurd financial crisis that has hit the company. It is the employees who explain why.

Danielle, Thanks! It appears the court doesn't trust Camperio but not sure where they go from here. Camperio or what?
Bravo Steve. You are right!
The court does not trust Camperio because, as we told in your visits in Italy, it seems too easy (to the court) the way he entered in Borsalino.
For sure the justice has some informations that we and the newspaper have not, but my worry is for the long time it will take to clarify the situation. In the meantime Borsalino actual products can be very "sought" for the "new wearers" of hat and a sort of mortification for the very faithfull clients (the classic part). I think also that Borsalino point its marketing on the very trendy segment of the clients that have the only idea to have a "fancy" hat with Borsalino golden stamps on the bow or the Fouquet imprinting: they are in the last few years the real livelihood for the company. Too much confusion in models for the classic and old clients, so the "new" are privileged for the money that they spend for a "Borsalino hat". I have many others thoughts, but I will see what happens after the feasts.

Gunner, welcome to the brotherhood. That is a nice hat you have there. Pity it's not your size, but once you get a little taste how great these hats are there will be others. The logo on your hat is very interesting: the logo itself is the same as the logo for the Ardilla line of borsalino hats.

borsalino ardilla melass_08.jpg

On your hat the wording is different ("non plus ultra" instead of "ardilla") and the colouring is not there, so it could be this was an early use of the logo. The label, shape and styling makes me think it's late forties or early fifties.
