That's a gorgeous borsalino, Bill. That one seems at least fifties and maybe earlier.

This is a good news for the Italian hats production. I hope for the best in a quick time :)

Cappellificio Cervo enters the orbit of the Zegna group, which has taken it over from liquidation. The Biella company was acquired by Zeca, controlled by the Ermenegildo Zegna group, with the participation of the entrepreneur Vincenzo Caldesi. The operation follows the liquidation of the company by the Court of Biella. In terms of the deal, the entry into the shareholding of Artigiana Cappellai, controlled by the Borrione family, will also take place, as well as the role of associate of the works, conferring the branch of manufacturing company and the artisan know how.

In detail, the acquisition, whose financial terms were not disclosed, concerns the Sagliano Micca (Biella) building, the Cervo, Barbisio and Bantam machinery and brands. Soon, an official note reads, work will begin on restructuring and securing the building that dates back to the end of the 19th century. In parallel, the operating methods for the recovery of production activity will be defined.

The Cappellificio Cervo, which takes its name from the nearby stream that crosses the Biella area, was founded as a cooperative in 1897 by local master craftsmen, who started the path that led him to become one of the most prestigious brands in the sector. The company also has original machinery from the 1800s, which allow to maintain unaltered some peculiar working procedures.

"The acquisition in partnership of Cappellificio Cervo - commented Ermenegildo Zegna, CEO of the group of the same name -, in addition to responding to renewed attention to fashion for the hat, is also dictated by the desire to help keep alive a manufacturing ability typical of our territory. I am sure that thanks to the skills of our partners we will be able to restore luster to a historic brand that in its one hundred and twenty years of life has positively contributed to the image of 'know how to do well' enjoyed by the Biella area "
That's great news. Let's hope Zegna takes the hatting manufacturing seriously and not just as an expansion of brands they own. Investing in the factory is a good sign.

Good looking Borsalino! Unsure about it's age, but that's a very special crease you've got in that one.
Yes.....I am totally in the woods with the Borsa. I only notced today it had a unreaded sweat. How long did they make them like that over there? As for the crease, when I have a good crown, I like to make them interesting.....

Thank you for the follow up. It appears the length and width match up with U.S. sizing.
The ruler and some hats I have seen indicate they were really after the US market at one time. I know the Borsalino I have is US sized. The paper size tag and even the blocking tags are in US 7 5/8.....it is an interesting hat given the US sizing and un-readed sweat.
I must say the felt is simply awesome........

Tonio's "Imported by George A. Place, Concord" is the only American imported hat that I have seen with the old style label (most likely 1920s) and it does have the U.S. / American Size written on the paper label and the size stamp. Maybe he can check it with the ruler?

Greetings All:
Another installment to the Brotherhood.
A vintage Palladio colored Gorasgu. Unreeded and corrugated sweat of lovely soft 1 7/8” leather. I really like the liner crest color and detail. Very thin light obedient felt as well. I’m thinking 50s origination and sold by The Higbee Co. Cleveland, Ohio i assume.
Be well. Bowen

I do hope that's an Punti 7 (so a 61 cm) and not an American 7, otherwise I'm going to be sooooo jealous. The Gorasgu model and the palladio colour are a killer combination. Stunning hat. Congrats and well done! Where did you find this one?
