No offense taken at all. As a matter of fact, I did play with the instep strap after reading your post. The middle position is exactly where it wants to be in my case, I would not able to pull it any tighter if I wanted to.

So. I bought some RRL engineer boots made by Julian in size 12 and they feel more like a size 10.5 Had to return them.

Been in touch with Zip quite frequently lately. My earliest naive encounter with his boot guy’s work was a pair of RRL vintage resole. Really really beat up old Engineer I bought for $1000. The sole job was very comfortable, not as refined as the japsnese or Role club but very comfy. Later on had other boots reworked by him. Very good communication.

Is anyone familiar, or have experience with ADDICT CLOTHES from Japan?

I came across their Engineer Boot and am really liking them. Seem to have a slender shaft, which I like. I dropped them a message. Hopefully I'll hear something back. The sole on the new boot looks a little intimidating, but the worn boot looks great IMO.

I'm sure they are nicely made, but those soles make them look like Elton John's engineer boot of choice.

Ha, I was thinking they looked like Gene Simmons' house slippers. Or something the Sweet might have worn with that infamous copper-coloured leather miniskirt which indirectly led to the birth of Aero leathers(!). I wonder are they intended to look a bit disco, or was there an original like that which someone had made and these replicate? To be fair, they otherwise look great - shave down the sole and heel by about half and they'd be superb.

Is that a triple mid sole? And the heel looks really tall also. The double mid seems to be popular in the market. Looks like someone pushed the limits a bit with adding even another level.
Bump toe , triple mid and tall heel. I think I would’ve opted for triple stitched! I’m sure with some miles on them they would develop a whole new personality but breaking in that midsole would be torture....

Break in would be a beast, for sure. Especially for a lighter fella like me. I'd definitely prefer these boots minus a layer or two! The sole and bump toe are very indicative of Japanese boutique brands.

Addicts got back to me. They mentioned the shaft opening on a 10 (their largest size) is 40cm, and their sizing is comparable to Red Wing's sizing. They seem to be sold out of Burgundy in 10, and no plan yet to restock. However, Black and Dark Blue will be restocked around April.

I have Frye Brando Engineer and Arkansas Engineer (wearing them now) that I feel are a great deal for the discounted price you can often find. These were made by Addison Shoe Co. in Wynne, Arkansas as far as I know. They run true to length, but a bit wide IMHO.

I have a pair of Frye Made in America engineer boots although I'm not sure what the model is called. They use Horween leather - I know as the Horween stamp is visible in one of the boots. I like them quite a bit.

I post the following with a heavy heart.
I'm pretty new to TFL. I came here following an internet trail to a shawl collar jacket. I was excited to find a group of people with some similar interests. Pretty quickly i found this thread. It was lust at first site. Over the course of a few days i read each thread from the very first engineer boot post. I damned photobucket for not allowing me to see pictures from earlier posts. I'd admired engineer boots before but never considered buying a pair. Well, after a few days here I went out and bought a pair of Chippewas. Thought i was as cool as Snoopy with sunglasses. I read posts on VEB and almost vintage. Went to dudewhthehecks youtube channel. I spent too much time looking at boots. I considered a pair of Roll Club but I'm basically a toddler with ADD and couldn't bear the wait. I bought a pair of Wesco from "the bootery" at Iron Heart. They are probably the best looking article of clothing i've ever owned. The leather is...sublime.
Now, tragedy has struck.
About 2 years ago i was diagnosed with hallux rigidus, which is a fancy way of saying big toe arthritis . I've avoided surgery by modifying my activities and taking some supplements along with occasional doses of Aleve. I had it under reasonable control. Then a few weeks ago symptoms started getting bad again. I had an idea of what it was, what in my life had changed, but was in denial. Now, after a control period, i know it's the boots. The combination of heel height tilting me slightly forward, and narrow toe box is putting too much pressure on my toe.
It is with great sadness that i will be putting both pair in the classifieds. Each has the equivalent of 1 week of outdoor time (i mostly wore them inside) and a total of maybe 35 hours wear each. They are slightly short of being new and a conservative 8.5 out of 10.

My wife says not to panick. Maybe just a cyclical bad bout. Not sure. Hard to even walk last night. I hate to give up the boots, but if i must, i should do it now while i can recoup some $.
