Thanks! I've about reconciled myself to the thought that if I want a jacket that actually fits me, I'll have to go custom. I've been gathering ideas for a while here.

Ya....i'm 6ft 6...240.....so Ebay is pretty much out for me..lol. I have 4 or 5 G&B's because their build is more for modern man...lol I have a couple of Aero's, but don't wear them much. I'm more into function and comfort, than fashion. Stu convinced me deerskin is wonderful stuff...lol

I had contemplated a Freewheelers Journeyman in jet black deerskin, but having read the comments about colour bleed, I think that I’ll play it safe and opt for horsehide.

This time I used Leatherique Rejuvenator. I also have Montana Pitch Blend, Prcard (it contains silica though). I need to apply everywhere to get it all colored. The pocket is even simply because I cover it all with the oil.

Thanks. Cool. I’d be interested in seeing how it turns out when finished. I think the reddish hue looks good. Puts me in a mind of aged natural cow hide which i love for it’s personality. The one commonality with alot of deerskin coats is the yellow color from tanning, i guess. That always has turned me off with deerskin which is awesome comfy stuff. Hope it goes well. Look forward to seeing the result.

The darkened color does not go away, I already knew that, and the hide absorbs the liquid very fast, so i don't plan to finish the whole jacket because that's just insane, it'll drink up my full bottle of liquid. Under the collar, I already applied some last year, it dried very quickly and really didn't do much, other than the darkening. i really am not sure what I'm doing this time lol, this leather is so soft and stretchy, i really can't justify myself conditioning it.

Yea, makes sense now that i think about it. Deerskin’s not that far from chamois (little deer) used to dry cars so i bet it would drink a gallon. I was just thinking along the lines of changing the yellowness i spoke of and conditioning at the same time. I wonder maybe Pecards antique dressing and some colored Kiwi shoe polish? Just brainstorming here.

Always enjoy brainstorming Bowen, no worries. Chamois (how do you pronounce this word? in the French way or as is? Sham Moys? or ShaMoa? LOL). Lovely little deer! more like a goat? Anyhow, I tried leather honey on it last night the darkening was less, but could be just because the honey sits on top and was absorbed more slowly. A bottle of Leather Milk is coming in, will try. This Leather Milk was said to be good for deerskin on their blog. See, the whole reason I'm worried is because the area I applied Leatherique last year (not onnly it's still dark), the surface seems to have dried!!!!! It's the opposite effect!

My G&B deerskin A2 gets alot of wear in the rain- it's virtually indestructible.

Those deer don't mind getting wet at all.

As I posted earlier in the thread, I was really uncertain about deerskin, but I’m glad that I went searching, as my Freewheelers Journeyman in jet black deerskin is my favourite jacket (or coat, really). This is a stock image (plenty of them online) as it captures the sheen so well.
This is a relatively large coat (size 44) with a two panel back, but the panel size/quality is uncompromised.
A real keeper - as rare as hens’ teeth, particularly in this size, and so comfortable to wear.

Ebay, it was a good deal too

. It is missing cuff buttons, and has zipper issues. My plan is to eventually re-make it in a soft steerhide or something similar.

I had one in the early 70's...a nice deerskin sport coat. My step dad sold it in 1973 in a garage sale for $5 while I was away at college. He also sold my '65 Strat for $20 in that same garage sale and boasted about getting an extra $5 bucks for the case. I learned a hard and fast rule of life when that happened....you cannot fix stupid.

Thanks for sharing these pics - I like all three colors and the deerskin Thedi use seems to be quite thick.
