I'd argue that's true... For the OLDER Excelled G-1's... The new ones they're making now in 2017 are pure garbage, vastly inferior to what they have been making previously since 1999.

One really cool thing about my year 2000 Excelled G-1 is that the windflap has the USN perforated correctly on both the outside AND the inside of the flap! Usually it's reversed when viewed from the inside but Excelled sewed the two layers of the windflap together and made the USN correct from both sides. Nice touch!

Hi all,

Anyone here have any experience with Brill Bros Golden Threads labelled G1s? I believe Brill Bros made actual Navy G1s but this one is clearly for the civilian market. There's one for sale on eBay at the moment that I might be interested in....

I keep saying no more G1s (well that is what i tell my wife!) but i succumbed to another one. This time an April 2005 mint Pharr! Great supple jacket with real mouton collar!

I had a 1970 Brill Brothers in a 42 that was to tight of a fit so I flipped it and picked up a 1992 Cooper contract jacket that fits great, well except for the sleeves being a bit to long. At 25 I guess it's considered vintage at this point. So in my vast experience of two jackets I'll go with the latter since it fits me!

I have three, and the best one is my Cockpit USA G-1. While it has no extra room, and is a military cut, it simply looks the best when being worn.

My favorite G-1 is a my most recent purchase, a Ralph Edwards E-series, size 42, made in 1984.

The last thing I need is ANOTHER G-1 but they are my favorite jackets and I couldn’t resist this one; a 1999 Excelled G-1 in a hard-to-find size 48. Found this one on the ‘bay at a good price. The leather is spectacular! It is reminiscent of the thick, dark seal, grainy goat found on jackets of the late 1950’s and early 60’s. I really, really like this particular jacket (and the fit is spot on).
I may opt to replace the dynal collar with real mouton but for now I’m just going to enjoy this latest G-1

These are the first batch that Excelled supplied to the DOD still having the eagle label on the later ones have the DSCP and DLA labels on. Definitely my favourite jackets. Sadly i hoard the Excelled G1s!

I would guess about 12, maybe 14. Some repro jackets, one original M-422a and the rest are government-issue G-1’s (1950’s thru current-issue).

That is impressive. And it makes me feel a little better about the six G-1's in my own closet.

It is difficult to make a stop in this hobby. It's true.
But I think the main thing is that all these jackets worn, and not hung in the closet.

Ok, I just counted and I actually have 18 G-1 jackets in total. That’s more than I ever planned on having but that’s the nature of being a collector, I suppose. Afew I haven’t worn in a while but haven’t gotten around to selling. Others (like my original H. L. Block M-422a) are worn on special occasions and are not among my everyday “beaters”.
The only bespoke jacket is my BK M-422 Willis and Geiger repro, tho I did buy a used Lost Worlds G-1 which is extremely nice.
I really prefer finding a used, government issue G-1 (I’ve even sleuthed out details about the pilots who originally owned them, which is half the fun in collecting G-1’s).

I agree with this 100%. History and touch to it ...
These jackets really remember a lot.
I am very glad that I managed to lift in the sky again Jerry's G-1. There is no pilot, but his jacket still flies sometimes. I hope he would be pleased. It's always nice to have a piece of history in hand.
