Victory leather cleaning

I am getting a previously owned BK in victory horse and have heard the hide is not very water repellent. How do I clean the cotton drill liner? I thought about spaying some watered down mild soap like Woolite on the pits and down the inside of the sleeves, let sit, then rinse with warm /hot water in the shower. Anyone have any advice short of tossing the whole jacket in the washer and hope it doesn't get wrecked?

If the leather isn't of sufficient quality to deal with water, turn the jacket inside out and wipe off the cotton with a damp, warm, soapy microfibre cloth. It will feshen up and clean the lining. Hang dry inside out until ready to wear.

I have washed most of my jackets in a machine with detergent - front loader - never did any damage. But I hear some leather is fragile, which kind of defeats the point.

Thank you. I've read some of the threads on washing the whole jacket in a machine. There are those who say they've had no ill effects and others who say it turned out bad. I don't need to clean the whole thing, just the liner. I want to avoid and possible shrinkage since the jacket is already short.

I own a Victory hide jacket and have had it in drizzle to light rain on a few 30 minute walks. It just rolled off and didn't seem to penetrate much if at all.
You might Febreze on the liner, I haven't yet but it's at the top of my list of to do's on my jacket.
