They might have drawn Betty Boop white, but her history is black. The character was actually stolen from Cotton Club singer Esther Jones — known by her stage name “Baby Esther” and the baby talk she used when she sang songs like “I Wanna Be Loved By You (Boop- Boop-BeDoo). Her act later “inspired” cartoonist Max Fleischer to create the character Betty Boop and Esther tried to win the rights back to her character until the day she died.

Don't know where else to post these but I've been researching a retail clothier & found info that ranges from 1908 to 1941, including the obituary of a 75 yr old employee of 40 yrs who died "on the job".

Really enjoy the old dept. store findings. Is that a hat of yours, Jack. Great embossing.
It's a Stetson Royal De Luxe St. Regis Homburg size 7-1/4 that is mine from an estate collection. I liked the embossing too & had never seen or heard of the clothier before. Whenever I see a business from St. Joseph I always wonder if it could go back to 1882, & that's what started the research.

LOL! Our ISP was out for most of the day...I checked my router several times but it wasn't the problem. Even though the water is still cold, there wasn't much else to do. Besides I know how you don't like to drive more than 300 mi.

I think you misunderstood me. The 300 mi. was just a statement of fact on distance to the state line, not how far I'd drive to see you or a select few.
