Picked up another Wrangler Montecristi, though not as nice as the first one. No indication who it was made by as the first one said made by Miller Bros. This one just says made in TX. Listed as a twenty star with a lamb skin sweat. Dimensions are a bit smaller at 3 1/2" x 6" with a 6" OC with a lot of taper and a wire reinforced brim. The weight is 3.8 oz. as opposed to the 4.25 oz. of the earlier one. Same mesh Wrangler liner. This hat's body is not as well made as my first one. A few flaws in the weave and way too much stiffener was used. Around a 350-400 wpsi as opposed to the over 500 on the earlier one. Appeared to be NOS as the tags were still attached and it came with a cattlemen crease that was so low it scraped the top of my head due to the amount of taper in the crown. The better hat listed for $120.00 as opposed to this ones $175.95 listing so I assume it was a later production. Still, for an actual Montecristi in western proportions, I'm happy.

My final tally included 2 Stetsons and 1 Dobbs. A Stetson Fortune & Glory (salesman says it is either all beaver or excelled) Sale price was $249 final price was $124.50. Stetson Stratoliner in Sage green sale price of $129 was $64.50. And the Dobbs Baker Street in Cordova color, the sale price was $129 with final price also $64.50. Almost had 4 hats, but a gentleman right next to grabbed the last Open Road in my size......drats! Plus, they brush and steam your purchases right there on the spot.

Funny thing with discount shops like this is that some are factory 2nds or rejects so one has to look carefully. I tried on many various straws also but could not find one to my liking and where I normally wear a 7 1/4 many of the hats in size 7 or 7 1/8 actually fit quite well, so the hats are not always labled correctly at the hat tags. I found a size 7 stetson strat that fit perfect, but took the one that was labled 7 1/4 which fit the same.

One confusing issue I noted when shopping here is that there are many racks of hats and each rack labled to size. But they are not in order. In other words one rack of size 7 1/4 is not next to the other one, they are spread out in different sections so it creates an adventure (hassle) having to roam around looking for the 7 1/4 racks of hats. Seems it would be more efficient to have all racks of 7 1/4 next to each other so one does not have to roam around and go back and forth through the store. But, hey it was an adventure. No complaints and no regrets.

Nothing Special, however it works for Spring/Summer.

THIS great hat arrived for me while I was gone......a Stetson St Regis in a unusual DARK grey. Mid-50's it too is in awesome shape and came in it's original box. This one was sold at the Stetson Factory Store and priced at $13.50. Sweat is dated 1956! Has the windcord like the nicer ones did AND it fits me absolutely perfectly! It looks to be VERY LITTLE worn......check out that reed......It is a KEEPER!

The felt is very light weight with a fantastic Chamois finish and interesting "Ramarro" Green color. If you look closely you can see a stitched brim binding most likely applied for stability + protection due to very light weigh felt.
