Hi there!

I'm new here, looking for like-minded people. I live in the NYC area and am looking for a social life outside of the comedy scene that I'm heavily entrenched in. I love cocktail culture, swing music, and jazz. I'm particularly enamored with Art Deco interior design and architecture. I also love the vintage clothes of the 40's and 50's. On a budget, it's hard to start an adequate collection, but you have to start somewhere.

I'd love to meet more people like me in my area who appreciate the past.

Greetings, you may call me Gerswin. I was led to the site while researching engineer boots. I sort of live a vintage lifestyle and am mainly attracted to the 60's era with a sprinkling of 40's and 50's. Style wise I am generally in boots and moto or utility jacket. I do just about all of my own restoration work on clothing, unless there is heavy tailoring involved. In the home I tend toward Danish Modern. Mainly I'm here because I would like to share my small collection of boots and jackets with like minded people and add to the overall information that is on the internet. Not too sure where to post those things but at least here is my introduction to start.

Welcome.

I think you'll find a lot of what you are looking for in the "Forums" section, under "Apparel" and in the "General Attire and Accoutrements" thread. You might also like things in the "Golden Era" Forum, especially under the "Your Vintage Home" thread.

But also just look around and explore - I always find neat stuff on Fedora that way. Enjoy and, again, welcome.

Welcome back! I'm always forgetting my log in passwords. Irritating. Glad you got back around to the lounge.

Hey everyone,

My name is Eamon, and I hail from Singapore. I've been a longtime lurker of this forum, Ask Andy, Styleforum, and the various Reddit men's fashion subs. I work as a customer service rep for a software developer, my job taking me down to financial districts and educational institutes to meet clients face to face. As such, my professional appearance is very important to me. I would describe my style as classic 1940s to early 50s, with a preference for windowpane sport coats and leather flight jackets. I am 28 years old this year (practically a whelp around here) so I hope all you ladies and gents can bear with my millennial insolence. Once again, I would like to thank you for welcoming the noobs aboard, and I'll see you around.
Howdy!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

My name is Zachary, and as you can imagine, I'm new in town. ;)

I'm 27 years old and I just love anything related to "vintage." Above all, I love old music as described here and old movies, especially b/w movies from the 40s and 50s. I usually do not listen to music made after 1965. Furthermore, I collect North American license plates; my oldest ones are Connecticut (tax sticker Aug 1963) and Tennessee from 1933. I do not watch movies because of their plots, I just enjoy the costumes. (I don't have a sensitive antenna for film plots.)

My occupation currently is working as an Esperanto teacher, besides attending University and looking for some kind of not-so-difficult, not-so-bad-paying work. :)

In my leasure time, I have appearances as a magician, comedian, and ventriloquist.

Talk to you later,
Zach

I found this forum a couple of weeks ago and have enjoyed the hat conversations. I'm a retired corporate exec. living in Dallas, and am so old & boring that I can actually use my real name here.

I enjoy vintage items, probably because I grew up with some and lived in the era of others. My style is pretty much rumpled casual, but it is indeed a style, and it suits my present circumstances.

Looking forward to enjoying the Lounge.

Allow me to introduce myself, my friends call me Chris...but my enemies call me their worst nightmare. Lol. But I actually joined roughly 2 hours ago I'd guess its been but I've got a pretty random reason for what set my joining the site in motion.

But this is the series of events which caused me to be here...
Was watching a movie earlier (Drugstore Cowboy -1989) and in the film theres a scene where a character gets really mad about a hat being left laying on the bed. There wasn't much explanation to why it enraged him more than I felt necessary so after the movie ended I still wanted to know what was the big deal about the hat on the bed.
So a Google search landed me on a thread about random and obscure superstitions, read through all the posts and gathered the believed origin of the superstition and some other possible ways it could have gotten started. So, that was solved but in some of the posts people sited movies with scenes about the "Hat left on a bed" superstition...To my surprise this movie wasn't mentioned so I created an account to add to the discussion.

*FYI the movie was fantastic, way better than I thought it would be. Would recommend giving it a watch one day*

Hopefully everyone has a good day, don't be afraid to say hello and introduce yourself...I'm looking for some like minded people and promise I'm pretty easy to get along with.
Thanks for reading this, AlphaOmega716 ( AKA Chris )

I'd like to say hello. Like many others, I've always admired the style and panache of men who wore fedoras. I'm 50 and I want to dress like a man. I no longer want to go out in public wearing shorts, t-shirts, or ball caps. Sadly, I'm cursed with a giant 7 3/4 head, which means I can't find vintage hats, but I'm buying new hats and trying to dress better. I appreciate all the style tips I've learned from you in the last few years.

As another "punkin' head", I feel your pain. I admire the older hats and enjoy seeing them, but there's almost no chance in heck I'll find a nice vintage hat in my size that I could afford. So I learn the style from the old hats here, and try to apply that to the few new hats that I've bought (at very affordable prices compared to vintage!). For folks like us, there are fewer vintage options, but I really do enjoy the company here.

Good luck!
Regan
