Beautiful Stetson Doug.2nd cleaning subject from Tuesday, a Stetson The Sovereign Twenty. Dark brown, gorgeous felt with a copper-to-rootbeer colored crown ribbon and Mode Edge.

Short Balding Guy:Woke up this morning to discover I needed to make a trip to the hardware store for plumbing supplies. I wore a vtg. Stetson Medalist and now a swimsuit to complete pipe replacement and clean-up.
I keep a fav pug on this hat. Wearing this hat makes me feel special. This morning I needed that feeling knowing that I have hours of plumbing and clean-up.
Love the weave of this hat.

I completely understand the feeling. When I get buyer's remorse for buying a hat I make myself remember that they make me happy, and that makes my challenges seem less burdensome. That, in turn, lets me produce more, to be able to buy a new hat.

Nice looking straw, Steve. Very rare to see a vintage European straw.Ottmar Reich possibly late 1930s early 1940s. I don't wear Straw Hats often but this one came with a Felt Hat find from about 3 months of months ago. I tend to think this hat is older because it came from an East German source and Ottmar Reich was located in West Germany.

I cleaned 2 hats last Tuesday in the white gas/naptha bath. Cleaning took about 15 minutes. Filtering the gas back into cans took another hour! Those little coffee filters plug up pretty fast. I was amazed at the amount of dirt removed, how much better the hats look and feel, and crease, too. Very pleased.
Here is one of the cleaning candidates, an older Champ I picked up several weeks back. It looked as though someone tried to clean it with water or a water/vinegar mix. There were white lines left in the felt, and the crease was really wonky and lopsided. Did I say how dirty this one was? Much dirtier than I thought.

Made by Wesco over New Hampshire way. Don't remember how it takes to bicycle safaris, but I think I need to go to the bike library today and rent a bench to make a few adjustments. So I'll be finding out.
