I can see why you chose these, Steve. They are beautiful boots. Are these specific to PR because I didn't know TL had 'roo boots in their catalog? Enjoy and keep us updated on how they work out for you.

Aaron
A sorry I missed one of your questions Aaron. They appear to be special ordered for PR. Interestingly, when you go on TL's site, nothing comes up when you type in "Signature Series"? Hmmm. I'll do an indepth report after wearing them awhile.

Took a trip to Steamboat Springs last weekend. Ended up in a thrift store with nothing to offer, except in the far back corner of the store.

Dan Posts circa 1975.

I haven't the slightest clue why, but recently I've had a desire to purchase a pair of cowboy boots.

It really doesn't fit with my style, which is exclusively khakis, collared shirt, fedora, but it is one of those itches... :kick:

I am just lucky I haven't happened across my size yet. How bad an idea is it? I was hoping I could depend on The Fedora Lounge to finally convince me not to go through with it and drop the idea all together.

The good news is that good used one's are cheap on EBay if you have patience. Perhaps pick up a used roper with a round toe to start. With jeans they could be any boot . Caution....collecting is habit forming.

Well, my first issue showed up today with my Tony Lamas. Not sure if this is a problem or normal, but a thread seems to be coming loose on the toe

. Is this a big deal or how should I try to fix it?

You could do what we did in the army with loose threads and burn them off with a lighter. In fact, I think Lucchese even shows in some of their marketing videos that they use a flame to burn off excess thread. I'd leave it be so if it does get worse it's easier to show PR if you want them replaced (I don't think it's possible to fix a toe bug once the boots is sewn together and lasted.

If you do want to fix it, I'd snip it and put a dab of superglue to hold together.

It appears your loose thread is along one of the wrinkles. It's likely polyester thread. I'd do as suggested and burn that end. I'd stay away from the super glue because I'd likely use too much and stain the boot. YMMV.

Thanks Aaron and Bamaboots, The end of this thread seems to have been burned already. I may wait just a bit to see if there are any other issues. Am I being too anal regarding a $700 boot?

Too uptight? I guess it depends on how you plan on using them. If you want pristine, then I say take care of the loose thread. If you want some character in them, then take care of the loose thread by wearing them while doing yard work or home repair. After a few sessions that tiny thread will be the least of the imperfections. lol

Probably, but you did say this was your first pair of high end boots and I have some that I might have a come apart over if I were to scuff them up bad but I did buy them to wear, not to look at. Many of mine were custom made and I can't think of a pair that I couldn't find some sort of flaw on, be it a loose thread, tooling mark or something else. Enjoy your boots.

Hey Shatfield:
Your little thread brought back all sorts of memories for me.
I recalled the War we had with each and every little thread ending (Irish Pennant) on the seams, inner and outer, of every piece of clothing in Marine Corps boot camp. They were/are the bane of existence of a well dressed Marine.
Torching them was the most fun allowed.
To this day no Irish Pennant shall prevail.
Thanks for carrying on the tradition.
Keep on torchin!!
